Jenn (jennmonk) | 7 comments This new generation of the family is promising. I like how David addresses the issue and the feeling expressed by Cassie and her mother in the trees.

Diane White | 8 comments I read this book in September. This is my review from then: Short story about a family who are taken advantage of by the white men in town when their father goes away. I had come to know these characters as adults in All Days Past, All the Days to Come and it was nice to see them as children. Although it was short the author did a great job of the developing the setting, time period and characters in the story.

Marcie (marcieloveskidslit) | 4 comments This was a definite one sitting read and I should have reviewed it right away rather than waiting two days. I read a copy with the Jerry Pinkney fabulous drawings. What a gift! Taylor's description really should be read by burgeoning readers and writers. I do love this cover by Kadir Nelson which puts the emphasis on Cassie.

Read back on April 8 but forgot to post it here.

I love that this was illustrated! The earnest desperation of the family while their forest is being stolen from them is powerfully written. Each of the children have distinct personalities and reactions to the disaster unfolding on their land.

I had to refresh my memory of the Logan family tree.
