Let's discuss Agnes Grey up to and including Chapter 6 (The Parsonage Again). No spoilers please! There's a different thread for those.

Amy McCracken (amymc109) I am surprised that I am enjoying reading Agnes Grey. As a narrator, I do like her character and enjoy the voice that A Bronte is creating for her. I have always been fascinated by governess stories, so I enjoy reading the things that happen to Agnes at the first horrible household. I was shocked by the animal violence, although I have read that that is a topic she tackles here. As a teacher, I love to see the ways that Agnes struggles to get her charges under control and how much her hands are tied when the parents take away any threat that Agnes may have against the children. I am curious to see where the story goes and to see if there might be romance in Agnes's future.

Lana | 9 comments I'm also enjoying the voice of Agnes and, as a teacher myself, I can relate to some of her struggles with disobedient children and parents who expect someone else raised their kids with them doing absolutely nothing. Looking forward to the rest of this story.
