Henry | 2 comments I remember the start of the story where a young boy (the main character) lives in a somewhat small village, he lives with his father only cause his mother died giving birth to him and his father loathes him for that although there was nothing he could do to prevent it, there is a girl he really likes but doesn't have the courage to talk to her, his best friend ends up proposing to the girl and he is happy for his friend but also sad. He one day figures out that he has some sort of magic power when he lights his fireplace on fire with his hands, but keeps the secret to himself not telling anyone accept his friend. I remember he is drawn to an old willow tree that was struck by lightning, he can sense some sort of magic remains and makes a belt and staff from the tree that strengthens his power and helps him control it more. the villains are three sorcerers who rule a large part of the kingdom and are trying to concur more of the world. they sense the kids power is greater than theirs, so they send a group of knights and soldiers to retrieve him in hopes of either killing him or turning them to their side I forget which one it was. either way *SMALL SPOILER*

when the soldiers arrive they tell the townsfolk of the boy and that they must surrender him over or be killed, the town try to convince the father of the boy to hand him over as to not cause trouble but he refuses and in the end a brawl starts where the main characters friend dies and the soldiers are either killed or something happens that they are forced to leave. the village ends up forcing him to leave cause they know more soldiers will show up, the girl his friend was gonna marry ends up going on the journey with him. I have more details for near the end of the book but that spoils the whole series if you would like to know those details just let me know and ill put them in a separate comment.

Hi Henry, just a small comment to say that you can actually enter some text into an actual spoiler.

Just click on the small section of writing that says (some html is ok) found just above the comment box itself, and look down until you find "spoiler". Right next to it is the actual html you need to enter to insert a spoiler.

Good luck finding your book!

Judy | 50 comments It sort of sounds like something Guy Antibes would write, but I know he's not the author because I've read most of his stuff. Was it part of a series or a standalone book? Is the boy the only one with magic or are there others (besides the villains)?

Michele (micheleevansito) | 5 comments Could it be A Wizard of Earthsea ? Plot sounds very close to this book.

Nope, this is NOTHING like A Wizard of Earthsea, in which Ged is first trained to be a wizard and then travels from his island of Gont to Roke to attend wizard's school, and eventually defeats a shadowy evil that he himself nearly released on the world. The only similarity is that Ged is an orphan.
