I just read the plot of the book "The One" and it sounds like it was based on a short story I read, probably in the late 70s. The story might have been by Harlan Ellison, but I can't remember the title. A new technique is developed to match you to your perfect soulmate. A man is happily married, but starts to question if he could be happier. He takes the test and finds out he is only 80-something percent compatible with his wife, but the test indicates there is somebody more perfectly matched in the high 90s. Does anyone know of the original short story title and author?
