Hi Kris,I can’t remember a common theme, I suspect it was quite a mixed bag.
I also seem to recall one of the other stories might have been about a high schooler who can see other people’s aura? But that might be a red herring
Fairly certain I read this story as part of a single authors collection
I forgot to mention: I’m in New Zealand, so there’s also an increased likeliness that it was a New Zealand or Australian author

Trying to track down the name of a collection of short stories.
It was a set of horror stories, aimed at young adults. I read it sometime between 2004 and 2012.
For the story I remember, the basic plot was a rich kid saw an ad for custom video games, maybe in the newspaper?. He orders one, and receives an open world game set in his own hometown.
Spoilers ahead:
He starts committing crimes, but it turns out that his actions are taking place in the real world. Eventually, he is killed by his own video game character.
For some reason I feel like it was an English town? I’ve tried unsuccessfully to track this down. I don’t think it’s any of the usual suspects, e.g. Horowitz, suspect this one might be slightly more left field.
Considering the plot of the book, I’m guessing it was published sometime after 1995, and possibly even in the late 2000s or even early 2010s?
Any help is much appreciated. Hope I’ve followed the rules here!
