I have been making very slow progress with this, though that's nothing to do with the quality of the writing, just getting distracted. So far I'm finding Thomas and Freda rather irritating. Thomas is like a little puppy around Mr Knight.

I've just read the section where Freda goes to her first ball and really... I pity her, but I really don't like her. I find the way she reacts to the situation with Uncle Edward ridiculous, and as for Thomas, what does he expect?

She always does draw you in with her writting, doesn't she.
