I have some vague memories of this book. In an interview a famous actor expresses his longing to have the family that he never had. Unexpectedly 4 or 5 orphaned babies are mysteriously left at his home. But the actor also unexpectedly goes missing (there may have been a reason but I don't remember). So the actor's household staff takes in the babies to raise. A few years go by and we meet the children who are now distinct individuals, each with their own personality. I recall a shy girl named Lucy as one of the children. Another sister who is more spoiled finds she has the talent to become an actor. The book is really about the children and how they get along with each other and the staff members who actually raised them. The famous actor is still out of the picture and doesn't show up until towards the end.
