S.wagenaar | 3 comments I’ve asked this question before, but never got a satisfactory answer, so I’m gonna try tap the hive-mind again. I’m trying to identify a thriller novel I read and enjoyed 20+ years ago. It’s a WWII spy thriller, set on the US Eastern Seaboard ( or Pacific Northwest!) in a smaller industrial town. The tale follows a Nazi spy (sleeper?) that lives and works in the town and seems like any other American citizen. His mission (I think) is to make arrangements near this port town for a secret landing of Nazi troops by submarine, and they are going to cause havoc and chaos on US soil. There is a chase/fight set piece that takes place in an iron ore foundry/mill (maybe?) and I recall one character has his leg impaled on a spike of iron slag. Spy may be romancing a local widow. Think Eye of the Needle but set in the US. That’s all I have. My brother-in-law and I both have been searching for this book for a while without success, so I’m hoping someone here might be familiar with the novel. Let the hive-mind do it’s magic!

I can only recommend this group (where everyone on Goodreads searches for books)

Or, the World War II book group, which is the real brain-trust for anything war-related:
