MountainKat | 31770 comments Here is your next task!

Task 17 - 75. Read over 1000 pages in books that start with the same letter (no articles), teams decide letter.

As a team select a letter and then read books totaling over 1000 pages in books that begin with the selected letter. Disregard articles - no 'a', 'an' or 'the', when looking at your book titles. Please include the selected letter in your completion posts. Remember to use the first edition Kindle page count!

~KarenH~ | 11371 comments Since we didn't pick a letter, I'm sure I can find something for just about any letter (except for the obviously next to impossible ones), but on my M&G list I have A, C, D, F, G, M, S, T.

message 553: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Nolly (booknerdchats) | 768 comments I have books for A, D, M, and T

message 554: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2934 comments I have a D book on my ereader already. It's only 171 pages, though, and we all need to do about 250, so it would depend on how long everyone else's books are.
Double Dare You (Bedlam Butchers MC, #7) by Ruby Dixon

I also have an A that's 284 pages.
Arak's Love (A World Beyond, #2) by Michelle Howard
And one that's 232 pages.
A-List F*ck Club The Novel by Frankie Love

I have an M that's 282 pages.
Mack Daddy by Penelope Ward
I'm ok to do M, but it'll be my last choice because Ward can be a bit hit or miss for me.

I don't have any T's yet, but I can look for some if you guys decide to do that.

Elizabeth Nolly (booknerdchats) | 768 comments My book the Dating Charade has 337 pages.

message 556: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2934 comments Ok. Then I'm good with D since yours will make up for my lower page count.

Not sure about Chan, though.

I'm not getting notifications again 🤦‍♀️. Everyone else?

message 557: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (last edited Apr 19, 2021 06:51PM) (new)

~KarenH~ | 11371 comments Nope, still not getting notifications. I got them for a while, but really delayed. Now it seems like not at all again.

My D book The Duke with the Dragon Tattoo (Victorian Rebels, #6) by Kerrigan Byrne is 384 pages, so plenty of leeway for others to read shorter books.

message 558: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11371 comments My A and M books are both over 300 pages too - 339 for A and 367 for M. I'm fine with whatever works for everyone else.

Chan | 5095 comments oh and all 3 books are over 300 pages

message 567: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Nolly (booknerdchats) | 768 comments Wow I thought we were going with D lol. Ok I’ll start an M book right now.

message 568: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5095 comments Sorry team. I've not been feeling well and the prescribed medicine makes me loopy. I only have to take it a few more days, so some of the crazy will subside soon.

I'll start on a book that begins with A.

message 569: by Courtney (last edited Apr 20, 2021 11:01PM) (new)

Courtney | 2934 comments Oh, wait! Elizabeth said M! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I'm only about 40 pages into my A book, so I can change if it's easier. I can do M. Doesn't matter

message 570: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Nolly (booknerdchats) | 768 comments Lol looks like I’m reading the whole alphabet for this challenge j/k. So are we doing “A”? I’m almost done with my M novel. I can find a quick “A” audiobook to read.

message 571: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2934 comments I'm ok switching to M if Karen is. I'm really not that far in my A book, and it's boring anyway 🤣. I actually found a different M that's only 178 pages, so I could get through it quick.

Chan | 5095 comments I thank you all so much. I was honestly thinking about taking a pass on this one. Liz, Karen and Courtney, you are awesome teammates.

I have horrible allergies and was skeptical about getting the vaccine, but i got it and of course i had an allergic reaction to it. I'm on steroids and stuff, but I'm not allowed the second dose unless an allergist clears me.

but in the meantime, my life has been super weird. I have strange side effects to medicine LOL. So, my family thinks it's funny, but then people who don't know me wonder if I'm 'special.'

Again, thank you and I'm sorry for screwing this up.

message 575: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11371 comments Wow Chan, that sounds like a major pain...and scary! I'm glad you were able to get the first dose of the vaccine, although whether or not it's worth the problems it caused is certainly debatable. But since you do have it, at least it will give you decent protection for a while. I feel very fortunate to have had only very minimal side effects to my first dose (bit of a sore arm for a day or so), and have my second dose scheduled for next week.

The upside of the whole mixup in letters is that I'm enjoying my M book much more than I was my A book...it's ok and I will go back and finish it, but the M book (My Favorite Souvenir) is a lot more fun!

message 576: by Chan (last edited Apr 21, 2021 03:07PM) (new)

Chan | 5095 comments Yeah it is a pain, but i don't have any of the popular side effects to the vaccine. Just the pain in the butt allergic reaction stuff like hives. I'll spare you the list of the other reactions lol. I've been whining enough and I'm finally on the mend.

I'm glad the mixup in letters worked out with you enjoying your book. I felt like a total screwup last night. i felt so bad.

Liz, I'm glad you found something else quickly too. Sorry you didn't enjoy it though. I laughed at your comment of reading through the alphabet for this task.

message 577: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2934 comments No worries, Chan! Honestly, I think the notification issue is what messed everything up with this one. My M book is pretty horrifying 🤣. Very rapey. I'm not sure why I even had it on my eReader. It must have been free at one point and I downloaded it without thinking. At least it's short, though. I've got three chapters left, so I'll finish it up on our way to the amusement park today.

Sorry about the vaccine reaction! Hopefully recovery will be quick!

Review:
I really didn't like this. Personally, I feel like this is just bad rape porn. I don't know much about BDSM, but this doesn't feel like this should be considered that to me. There is absolutely no consent in here, and the heroine frequently says she doesn't want what is being done to her. Added to that, I hated how she was referred to as "little girl". Just yuck!

Outside the sex, there isn't much plot anyway. And with the sex being so horrific, this was a big fail for me.

Task 18 - 119. As a team, select an author that is new to at least two of you and each teammate reads a book by that author.

Select an author that is new to at least 2 teammates, then each teammate reads a book by the selected author. Please include the teammates the author is new to in your completion posts. (Ideally link to their shelves sorted to the author too. 😁)

Courtney | 2934 comments Oooh. One we didn't have before!

What do you guys think? I've mentioned Em Petrova before, and I don't think anyone but me has read anything by her. I know Liz likes more regency romances, though, so maybe Stacy Reid? I've been meaning to try one of her books for ages and haven't gotten around to it.

message 582: by Chan (last edited Apr 22, 2021 08:12AM) (new)

Chan | 5095 comments I like these tasks. I usually get some good reads and new authors to add to my ever growing list.

I'm adding a few suggestions from a list of authors I've been wanting to tryout to Courtney's list. I haven't read anything from the authors listed below:

Em Petrova Stacy Reid Carrie Ann Ryan Danielle Garrett Josh Lanyon Helena Hunting
Louise Bay Lucy Score Max Monroe Rachel Gibson Sylvie Stewart Golden Czermak Rachel Reid Lynsay Sands Whitney D. Grandison

message 583: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Nolly (booknerdchats) | 768 comments I'm so sorry I haven't really been on much lately. They flipped my hours at work, and the new hours are really kicking my butt. Anyway, I'm good with pretty much any author. I always love finding new authors to read. These would be my first picks.
Stacy Reid Danielle Garrett Lucy Score Sylvie Stewart Em Petrova

message 584: by Courtney (last edited Apr 22, 2021 04:24PM) (new)

Courtney | 2934 comments I like Helena Hunting and Lynsay Sands off your list, Chan, but I've read them before so we'd have to make sure that only one other person has.

I have books on my TBR for Lucy Score , Max Monroe and Sylvie Stewart , so any of those or Em Petrova or Stacy Reid are good for me.

Does anyone have a preference? Maybe we should all pick our top two? I think my least preference would be Lucy Score just because all her books rock in over 500 pages, so you guys will be waiting for a while for me to get through mine

message 585: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5095 comments I know you asked for top 2, but i have 3 -

Helena Hunting Stacy Reid Sylvie Stewart

message 586: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5095 comments My notifications are still broken and it's driving me bananas. What the heck is going on?!

message 587: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2934 comments It probably has to do with the stupid new layout they're working on.

But it looks like Helena Hunting is out, though. Karen, Liz, and I have all read her before.

So I guess Sylvie Stewart or Stacy Reid

message 588: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5095 comments I'm fine with either one. Should we wait for Karen and see if she has a preference?

message 589: by Courtney (last edited Apr 22, 2021 05:51PM) (new)

Courtney | 2934 comments Yeah, I'm fine with either. We can see what Liz and Karen think. I'm probably leaning more to Stacy Reid because I already have a book of hers loaded on my eReader 🤣, but I can get a Sylvie Stewart tonight when I get home.

message 590: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Nolly (booknerdchats) | 768 comments I’d prefer Stacy Reid because my library has some of her audiobooks but I’m fine with either.

message 591: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11371 comments Hey everyone! Sorry to be so absent today - my life is in total upheaval right now! 🤪🤪 I'm in the process of moving, and it's been a little stressful since the sale of my house closes on the 30th and until today I didn't know where I was going! Not as bad as it could have been since the transaction is all in the family so it's not like I'd be sleeping in a cardboard box on a street corner if I didn't find a place, but still crazy stressful. Anyway, I found out today that someone down the road has an unfinished studio apartment that I can rent dirt cheap for as long as I need it, until I can find the right, long-term place. It's a little rough but definitely livable, and my dog is welcome so I can put up with some minor inconveniences.

Anyway, on to the matter at hand. of the two choices left (and thanks all for narrowing it down for me) I would prefer Staci Reid, only because her audiobooks are available to me from the library and Sylvie Stewart's aren't.

message 592: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5095 comments Wow. Liz and Karen, you both seem to be having it rough right now. Liz, i hope things smooth out at work for you. Karen, moving sucks. Whether you have something fabulous lined up or not, it's hardwork. I'm glad you found something and I'm sending you peace and strong muscles 💪

message 593: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5095 comments Stacey Reid it is.
Going off to search her shelves.

message 594: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2934 comments Oh wow! Moving sucks so bad, Karen totally feel your pain 🤣. Glad you found something that'll work out for now!

I'm going going to do Accidentally Compromising the Duke (Wedded by Scandal, #1) by Stacy Reid .

message 596: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11371 comments I'll be reading My Darling Duke (Sinful Wallflowers, #1) by Stacy Reid - the longest one available to me from the library (of course), but I'm a sucker for an injured/damaged hero!

message 597: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2934 comments Liking mine so far! I don't know how Evelyn will ever redeem herself, though. I get why she did what she did, but man, that's a pretty dirty way to treat a friend!

I agree! I'm reading the same book and wow I can't believe that she would do that to her friend. Luckily it all worked out. (Of course it did 😉 like it would end differently) Which is probably how the author is going to make it all ok when it's it time to writing Evelyn's love story.
