Review: This book was really funny, but at times the banter was a bit much. However, I really liked the characters and definitely want to know what's next for them.

Alice Winters certainly has a specific style. While I enjoy the rest of the plot of her stories the constant snark gets to be a little much.

This book reminded me so much of B.L. Brunnemer Veiled Diaries Series. Which is a series I love. I really enjoyed this book for the slowly developing relationships and how everyone has there own issues and personalities. Only draw back for me is the high school setting. Looking forward to next book.

Yeah, at the beginning of the book I was laughing out loud, by the end I was getting a little tired. But definitely an author to keep in mind when you need something floofy (like Rowan's tail 😂)

Task 22 - 80. Read 4 books initially published in different decades.

For this task make sure you use the initial publication date. If there is a date listed at the top of the editions page use it, otherwise I will be looking for the earliest dated English language edition regardless of format for the qualification. Please include the decade you are reading from in your completion posts.

Review: Maybe because I had high expectations, or maybe because I'm just not ready yet to read a book set during the pandemic, but I was disappointed. One of my favorite authors, and there was nothing particularly wrong with the book, it just didn't work for me for some reason.

This book did not work for me. Very much old school book with characters that behave so stupidly they are hard to believe as real. Bobbi Smith use to be one of my favorite authors when I first started reading romance in early 2000's, Romance books have sure come a long way in 20 years.

⭐⭐⭐
Everyone says the first two Discworld novels aren't very good and should be skipped by new readers in favor of something from further along in the series. In truth, The Color of Magic wasn't bad - it was just a bit of a slog in places. Fortunately, I've already read one of the later books and really enjoyed it. I'll keep going.

Truitt_T | 805 comments Not only did it take me forever to finish my book, I was completely confused about the original publication date. I had a horrified moment during which I thought I was going to have to read another book, beofre it occurred to me that there was nothing in the task that said the books had to be from consecutive decades. What a relief.

Sorry KellyJo, that my goof meant that you got stuck reading something from the 90s....

I've always been surprised no one has gone back and read a classic or something like that for this task, but everyone always tries to stick as close to current as possible. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Teresa (teresab78) | 1064 comments This book is killing me... it is so dark and hopeless. I still have 100 pages left so I’m hoping for a happy ending but it feels like if our MCs are (barely) alive the author is calling it a win.

This is hard to rate.
I almost couldn't finish this, it got so bleak and dark. It has been a while since I read the first two and didn't remember them well so was a little lost in places. I recommend reading this immediately after the others. The descriptions were good and I was immersed in the story. There is a lot of action and danger with little time to catch your breath before the next bad thing happens. Though it ends in a much better place than I thought it would, there is a sadness to it.

At least that ended well, but yeah, while I don't mind (and actually like) a little dark in my books, I feel like nowadays if we want bleak and sad we can just read the news. Books are supposed to be escapism, at least for me.

While I love paranormal/fantasy/sci-fi sometimes I need a sweet hurt comfort contemporary story to make me smile. This fit the bill perfectly. Nico was prickly but sweet at his heart. West was strong and capable. I loved them together and the whole Wilde family. While there were definitely feels, it wasn’t angsty.

Truitt_T | 805 comments I just wanted to check in with everybody. I did intend to get to a second book, but I haven't made much progress with my first. Tough week, lol. I worked yesterday and had a last minute schedule change that has me working today, too. That means it'll be tonight before I finish Where There's a Kilt, There's a Way.

How about this: if the team makes it to six books before I finish my first, feel free to go ahead and post the completion, giving me a pass for the task. As I recall, we each get one and given that we're almost done, I'm fine with using it. Otherwise, I'll post tonight when I'm finished. Sorry. :(
