i read this in the mid '80s - i dont know how old it was

im fairly certain it was a flip-book, two stories back to back

the humans were on an alien planet with grass that drank blood (i think? it attacked humans) and could only be eaten by a local beast the human settlers were killing

it was strong and the humans couldnt kill it

there was another alien (i think, its been a while) who had two thumbs, i think, and golden skin

any help is appreciated

edit - by flip book i mean you rotated the book and there was a second story on the other side, upside down to the first - it was glue bound
