Around what year did you read this book? A range of years is fine.

The area is medieval period. The story starts of with a boy that starts to show the potential for magic. So the family contacts the wizard that’s designated to their area and the wizard ends up taking the boy to the capital where the wizards are initiated by a ritual that happens on the full moon. Each wizard is garbed in forest green robes meant to protect the wizards from the environment. The villain is a wizard that has been training his magical ability by shooting flame magic into a lake until he’s about to pass out everyday for years. They send a group with the kids to go to a magical place to retrieve the crystals that will be on their wands and the evil Wizard takes the opportunity to kill the head witch and some other in the group. The wizard then travels back to the capitol where he attempts to use a massive crystal that they only use during crisis to subjugate the rest of the wizards.
Book 2: the evil wizards make connections with a different continent that destroyed its nature to become more industrialized with advanced weapons and whatnot. The protagonist ends up traveling through the merchant zone and into the industrialized area where wizards have all but been forgotten. In this zone the wizards were used as oracles but were slaughtered. The wizards ends up dealing with one of the prominent figures of the industrial zone and the leader wants to make a deal
