yesss congrats!! i had an amazing day btw, thank you! <3 school is exhausting though haha
i haven't read today because i wanted to give you time to catch up but i'm loving this book so muchhh so far! what about you?
is there anything you'd like to talk about in detail? or should we just continue reading? and then how many chapters ahhh!!

message 53: by Nimrat (new)

Nimrat | 2356 comments Yes I'd love to discuss! Only problem is I don't know what to discuss. (Why does this happen with me everytime?)
I'm intrigued and want to know what's going to happen next so I guess I can say that I'm liking it too.
There are 30 chapters in the second part so I guess we should try to read 15 chapters today and tommorrow.
Try is the keyword remember?😉

same ;-; i mean, i guess we can't really have a definite opinion on anything since we're not that far in :)
we could definitely try to do that!

message 55: by Nimrat (new)

Nimrat | 2356 comments So once again I realise that the goal I set for myself was unrealistic for me. I can't really read this much of a fantasy in one day. Can we do it 5 chapters a day? I'm sorry. I'm just being so annoying. You deserve a better buddy.
But we could read another book at the same time if it's fine with you.
I was mostly catching up with all the learning on the weekend so I think I probably read just like 3 chapters.

message 56: by Nimrat (new)

Nimrat | 2356 comments So I have around 100 pages left. I'm probably going to finish this tomorrow.
What about you?

message 57: by laure (new)

laure (nworthia) | 57 comments hi Nimrat!! i'm so so sooo sorry; i had exams this week and i think i hadn't anticipated the time and effort they would take me... ;-;
i didn't log it in because i didn't want to put pressure on you lmao, but i actually finished an ember in the ashes last saturday!! (yes i read it in two days, you're allowed to judge me ;-; there was so much going on and the plot was so addicting, i couldn't stopppp).
i wasn't able to find the book thief at my library and can't buy a physical copy at the moment, so i was wondering if you maybe knew a good ebook website so we could read it...? i never really read ebooks and the only version i xould find online was in french (don't ask me why though-) so i'm quite bad at this haha!
next week will be a lot less busy so i'll actually be able to respond!! and to read!!!! ;-; i'm so sorry for *kind of* ghosting you this week; i was really overwhelmed and couldn't really afford to open gr and get distracted!

message 58: by Nimrat (new)

Nimrat | 2356 comments Oh I totally get that. And I mean it. I had this whole other account on goodreads before and I deleted it because I needed to focus more on studying. But here we are.
Whoa. 2 days? I could never-
There's this website called z-library. It's where I get my ebooks.
Yes!! That's great!
No I get it. It's totally fine. Exams take a lot of time and effort. I hope you did well :)

message 59: by Nimrat (new)

Nimrat | 2356 comments Do tell me when you find the ebook for The Book Thief.
How about we start it with 5 chapters a day?

message 60: by Nimrat (last edited Mar 12, 2021 10:01AM) (new)

Nimrat | 2356 comments I just noticed.
THE BINDING OF MY COPY OF THE BOOK THIEF IS COMING OFF. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A NEW COPY.

message 61: by Nimrat (new)

Nimrat | 2356 comments Also we should log in Am Ember In The Ashes.
Do you wanna do it or should I?

i'll probably find it today, i just need to do some research first and i'll catch up on you in the future if i can't find it today!!
yes, i feel like 5 chapters a day would be a great and reasonable goal!!

laure (nworthia) | 57 comments okay, did it!!

Yay! That's not much, but still!

message 69: by Nimrat (new)

Nimrat | 2356 comments Also, WHY DID I NOT RECEIVE A NOTIFICATION FOR THIS??
As I didn't see this I filled the form too. Oops. Sorry, Mods.

laure (nworthia) | 57 comments Nimrat wrote: "nworthia wrote: "(we have 4 points at the moment, yay!)"

i meannn to be fair, we did get into relatively long books and were reading different books at the same time, so it's quite decent :')

message 71: by laure (new)

laure (nworthia) | 57 comments and four points was a nice amount on the 12th of march hahah! but it's okay, i feel like we had some fun and that's the most important part :')

oh nooo i thought you'd seen my message on time ;-;
sorry, mods!!!!

message 73: by laure (new)

laure (nworthia) | 57 comments i don't think we'll have time to pick up another book since you're already reading the book thief and the night circus at the same time, so even if the book we chose was like 100 pages long, we wouldn't have time to finish it!
btw it's completely okay if you can't finish one those two books before the end of the challenge!! they're both big/relatively hard to get through books so no pressure!
and it feels as though you're not really enjoying them so don't force yourself; you can still dnf them :))
we tried and didn't really succeed but it's okay!! x)

message 74: by Nimrat (new)

Nimrat | 2356 comments I'm probably going to finish the night circus tomorrow. The Book Thief, well that book can take time considering I still have about 300 pages left.

message 75: by Nimrat (new)

Nimrat | 2356 comments Some books just take me time to get through and some I can just finish in like 2-3 sittings. Books which have more dialogue keep me interested and hence I finish them in lesser time. But now I realise all the books we chose had more narrative than dialogue, so maybe that's the reason I'm taking so much time to read them.

message 76: by laure (new)

laure (nworthia) | 57 comments Nimrat wrote: "I'm probably going to finish the night circus tomorrow. The Book Thief, well that book can take time considering I still have about 300 pages left."

yes, that's totally understandable! we just made bad decisions in the first place lol

I was the one selecting the books though...

message 79: by Nimrat (new)

Nimrat | 2356 comments But I think you loved all of them didn't you?

message 80: by Nimrat (new)

Nimrat | 2356 comments I just finished the Night Circus btw. I'm just gonna fill the form for that one.

message 81: by Nimrat (new)

Nimrat | 2356 comments This book is almost 400 pages, but we'll still get 3 points for it, because it's 391 according to goodreads.

message 82: by Nimrat (new)

Nimrat | 2356 comments Believe it or not, I finished the Book Thief. Finally. So now we have 12 points? I'm just gonna go fill the form.

message 83: by laure (new)

laure (nworthia) | 57 comments Nimrat wrote: "But I think you loved all of them didn't you?"

yes, i actually did! i was in a really good "reading-phase" so i basically enjoyed anything that wasn't an academic read though xD

oh thank you! that's strange though, my edition was over 600 pages... i guess the font was really big lol

ooh yes! thanks for filling the form!! how did you like it?

message 86: by laure (new)

laure (nworthia) | 57 comments also I WAS NOT NOTIFIED THIS IS SO ANNOYINGGG!! now i feel bad cause you did all the form-filling stuff on your own lol
how did you like the books we read?

message 87: by laure (new)

laure (nworthia) | 57 comments (also, i think 12 points are great!! yay!)

No, it's totally fine.
YES GLITCHREADS SUCKS.

An Ember in the Ashes- I really enjoyed this one, at some parts I got bored but overall it was still and AMAZING read!!

The Book Thief:- I guess I had unrealitically high expectations for this book. I LOVED the writing, however I couldn't connect to the characters, hence I didn't cry in this book. I'm a big mood reader and this month I was more in the mood for action packed fantasies. I'm probably gonna reread this sometime when I'm in my ~emotional mood~

The Night Circus:- The writing was really beeautiful. This is the first time I enjoyed ocerly descriptive writing. (Although that might be due to the audiobook)
Again, I couldn't connect to the characters. The story had NO plot. This book wasn't plot driven, but it wasn't exactly character driven either. It felt like it was "writing driven" ( that isn't even a thing though)
So it just got boring and boring.

message 89: by Nimrat (new)

Nimrat | 2356 comments What do you think about all the books?

message 90: by laure (new)

laure (nworthia) | 57 comments an ember in the ashes - i really enjoyed it too! i literally flew through it (it gave me great great great escapism lol) and liked it a lot as the first instalment of a fantasy series: it truly made me want to read the remaining novels. i loved laia and ellias SEPARATELY (hahahaha not the love square-). i did have some minor issues with the lack of world-building, although i did enjoy that it was not so heavy on descriptions and mostly relied on action-packed scenes. it was overall quite refreshing and i can'y wait to discover more about the characters, even though they didn't really stick with me and i can't remember much about them lol. i can definitely see why you would find it boring at times; i found the pacing a bit strange.... BUT i absolutely LOVED it when i finished it, i gues i'm just being overly critical because i've been doing too much literature analysis lately lmao

message 91: by laure (new)

laure (nworthia) | 57 comments the book thief - this was a re-read for me so i already had some kind of connection with the characters when i started this book and it impacted my enjoyment a lot (in a positive way though). i can DEFINITELY understand how you could be disappointed by this book, and it's interesting that you mentioned it! i read it quite a long time ago because i had already watched the movie and wanted to know more about it, so i hadn't been subjected to the booktube/bookstagram/goodreads/... hype around it, which i personally find a bit... too much? idk. but i LOVED this re-read and cried way too much considering i knew everything that was going to happennn- ;-;

message 92: by laure (new)

laure (nworthia) | 57 comments the night circus - i mostly loved this book for its writing style. i was going through a horrible exam/studying period of the year when i read this book, so being able to dive into its mesmerising atmosphere was priceless to me! i definitely agree with your "no plot" statement: there was no plot. but i liked it! i felt it made it unique and interesting in its own way because you had to focuse on every little detail to grasp the full meaning of the sotry, which was really nice! i struggled A LOT to ship celia and marco to be honest, because i cared about them separately but felt bad rooting for their relationship because marco's treatment of whats-her-name was... ew. what i liked the most about it was the circus atmosphere (it really made me dream) and the three younger characters. i related to poppy, bailey and widget because 1) they were kind of my age. i'm sorry, i just can't really root for 35 year olds.... 2) they were just amazing in general.
this book made me cry many many times because its writing was simply that beautiful (yes this makes no sense i know), but i really get why you would dislike it!

message 93: by laure (new)

laure (nworthia) | 57 comments OH MY GOD I'M SO SO SORRY I DIDN'T REALISE I'D WRITTEN THAT MUCH

message 94: by laure (new)

laure (nworthia) | 57 comments ummm summary:
- an ember in the ashes : fun! love rectangles EWWW. action YESS. can't remember much about it.
- the book thief : re-read! kind of overhyped on the internetttt so it's okay to dislike it dw!! cried way too much; it's sort of embarrassing...
- the night circus : LOVED IT! writing YESSS. characters i can't relate to fourty year olds but anyways the poppy, bailed and widget trio deserves the worlddd plot did not exist but i (surprisngly enough) loved that!

message 95: by Nimrat (new)

Nimrat | 2356 comments An Ember in The Ashes was probably the one I enjoyed most out of these three.

I cry even more if I reread a book that made me cry earlier, because I know what's going to happen.

Yes. I don't ship Celia and Marco either. I cared about Celia a lot more than Marco though.
I think you're talking about Isobel?

i'm sorry, i just can't really root for 35 year olds.
True though😂

YES! It totally makes sense. I cry over the beauty of the writing too! Not in this book though.

message 96: by Nimrat (last edited Apr 02, 2021 09:25AM) (new)

Nimrat | 2356 comments I'm so confused about who I ship or don't ship in An Ember in the Ashes.
Like I ship Helene and Elias, but I also ship Laia and Elias. It's weird.
I kinda liked Keenan and Laia too, but I don't that's going to happen tbh.

message 97: by laure (new)

laure (nworthia) | 57 comments yes i was talking about isobel, whoops- this woman was manipulated throughout the whole novel, i kinda felt bad for her tbh

and yesss an ember in the ashes got me so confused! in the beginning, i had a feeling laia and elias would end up together because... ya books, but then when helene was introduced i decided to live in the fantasy that the two main characters would absolutely not end up together and that it would be a beautiful tale of friendship or something! so when elias started to find laia super attractive i was like NO THIS IS FRIENDSHIP PLS, and the fact that it ended up being a love RECTANGLE (i already despise love triangles but... RECTANGLES??) kinda pissed me off. but at the same time i'm confused because i do ship all the characters together so much (they have such a great bond) and so i can't chooseeee ;-;
i was *completely* rooting for keenan in the beginning but then laia started to manipulate him and to avoid kissing him and i felt the disappointment coming lol
