She continues to use her magic in order to save the people she loves especially her sister and in turn becomes addicted to its power. In the end she trades her own life with to save her sister from dying to a goddess who makes her a star for her sacrifice.
The epilogue shows the hero following after the star in order to be reunited with his love.

I don’t really remember how she discovers or uses her magic.
She is the elder sister in the plot.

But I remember the ending for certain. It was one of the very few books I have read where the author was bold enough to end the main character.
