Book: Taken, Not Spurred previous published as Gentling the Cowboy (Texan Nights, #1) by Ruth Cardello
Pages: 230 as per kindle edition in above link
Read: 28 April
Rating: 3⭐️
How it qualifies: from original published version précis ‘She sets off for Texas thinking that a summer on a working ranch will finally inspire her.’
From recently published version précis ‘So, when the opportunity to spend the summer working on a ranch in Texas comes her way, she jumps at the chance—figuring it might be just the jolt she needs to get her creative juices flowing’
Review: Sarah arrives at her friends ranch and takes a shower while waiting for her. It turns out it’s not her friends ranch at all but the ranch of grumpy Tony who is determined not to like anyone and to suffer eternally as a result of guilt over the past. Sarah breaks him down as he helps her discover herself and gives her excellent material for her first romance books.

Review: This book did have romance, but was mostly about family. Leni Albright moves to Alaska with her parents, when her veteran father decides it will be a good place to escape the evils of society. He's suffering from PTSD, and his struggles and demons were portrayed very realistically. I think my favorite parts of this were: the community and thinking about what it would take to survive in a cabin in Alaska, and secondly, Leni's love of books. I also thought the mother/daughter relationship was shown very well.

Review: A family generational story following Sunji and her children and grandchildren from Korea to Japan during the war and their small triumphs and struggles. This was a lovely touching story with devotion and love present throughout the hate and sorrow and I actually really enjoyed it which I didn’t think I would.

Book: That Summer (That Boy, #6) by Jillian Dodd
pages: 328
Rating: 4.5
review:
This book was slow in the beginning for me. I never read a friends to lovers book before but this definitely will not be the last. I also love the characters in this book they were all comforting in a way but still made you feel like you were there. I also love the main guy character chase. I connected to him more than Dani who is the main girl character. The reason why I connected more with him was because he always loved her. Putting her before anyone else even when she selfishly didn't care about him when she got into a relationship. His character development was amazing I will say. But yes this book is a part 2 and it comes out in June so I will be reading it!

Rating: 5/5
Review:
I love this book!! This was my first bully romance book that I've read and honestly is wasn't bad. In a lot of reviews it was saying that he was just abusive and I have to disagree. He just loved the girl but hated her because he wanted to kind of be her which sounds weird but that's how i'm saying it. But once you get past the hate they are such sweethearts. Vicious hes everything!! I loved the way he loved Amelia in away that was different but still made you love him. Also I adore the side characters in this book and can't wait to continue the series.

Zoey turns up at Riley’s ranch to see where things go and the 2 of them spend time getting to know each other. Zoey is torn about moving so far away and also knows that Riley doesn’t fit the mold her parents want her to fit into but she loves life on the ranch and is falling for Riley and his family.

Ehhh... this story was really lacking. It had an interesting premise but the plot was really thin. I'm still not sure about the whole nonsense about the "curse" (if ghosts could harm people, why wouldn't they go after the person who killed them, instead of the one person who can talk to them).

I've enjoyed books from Tessa Bailey before, but this was just too much in too short of a story. I wasn't overly invested in either character and there was just too much happening. A lot of the story also wasn't very believable.

Option 1
13. Surf your own shelves.
* On your preferred TBR shelf, look at the beige bar at the bottom of the page - on the sort function, click on 'random' and then read one of the first 3 books that now appear at the top of your shelf.
You may use any of your TBR shelves so long as there are at least 15 books on that shelf. If the page count for any of the three books does not qualify for the challenge (that is, is less than 100 pages), you may select the next book that has appeared randomly on the list. You must use a list that does not contain books that you have already read IF you do not want to read them again. You cannot substitute for the next book on the list, as allowed with the page count. If 3 books are at the top of your list that you have already read, you must select one of them.
Please note again - there must be at least 15 books on your TBR shelf.

Option 2
Key date: 13 November 2020

If you use this option, this week you must select your book from the team shelves immediately below your team in this list. The last team picks from the first team.

10 Couch Potatoes
7 The Lounging Lovelies
3 Couch Cruisers
8 Relax, Ride and Read
5 Have Books, Will Travel
4 My Couch or Yours
2 Surfing the Stacks
6 Our Couch Pulls Out, But We Don't
11 CouchSurfers Wipeout
1 Bargain Basement Backpackers
9 Six Slouching Surfers

Eg. Team 10 picks from team 7's members bookshelves. Team 9 picks from team 10's members bookshelves.

DO NOT PICK from a team member who has left the team during the game. Picks must come from current members.

Option 3
Not available this week
