Do you remember the cover?Time period/location story takes place?
How far into the book do the readers find out that the boy is an alien?
Each cover had one of the four children on it: 1 for each origin story. The fourth book had the strange looking boy in it. The fifth book had them all running towards something. There was no set time period, but I got the impression that it was maybe 200 years in the future. The main character didn't mention any main events (IE: its been 200 years since the rebellion after the oil ran out or something). To the main character it is the modern age. He's not an alien, just a human that was born from people who, for possibly three generations, never left their homes and lived in a virtual world.
Thinking on it one character was a 12 yr old Jock. I think they were all boys.
I believe they were all urban,/suburban kids.
A lot of that sounds a bit like what happens with Pixel in the Diadem book series by John Peel, but it's about only one chapter in the first book, so probably not it.Just in case though:

I followed the link and recognized the cover. I cannot believe that that was only a chapter in the first book. Memory can be a weird thing. this was it.
I actually managed to help someone? Awesome! ^^; I seriously felt like I was never going to be of any help.
I don't recall what the main plot weaving them all together was, but the first four books were each told from the point of view of the character. Sort of the origin story. Of this I only can recall the 4th book which involved this boy (age 12) who lived in his house with his family. His house was a smart house with an AI (not called that) and he lived with VR glasses on since birth. Everyone did. Anything he wanted hewould just ask his house for and it would reply because it knew his vocal patterns.
For some reason he removes his googles and sees his house is dingy & plain and his parents are very pale wearing rags.
He leaves and sees that he lives in a row of similar houses and goes to explore. He sees some people gardening, but when they see him they chase after him angerly. He gets lost & has gotten sunburn. Goes up to the house and demands to be let in, but it won't because it is not his home.
When he meets the other kids he is described as alien: large buggy eyes, pale almost translucent greenish skin, very thin and almost hairless.
Any clue?
