My son and I are trying to remember a book we listened to in the early 2000's when we used to travel for his cancer treatment. So it has been out at least 2 decades. I thought it was Frank Peretti but could be wrong. It was a 3 or maybe just 2 book series. The main guy had a son and there was a pair of glasses given to them that enabled them to see the spiritual realm, as in angels and demons and the on going fight. I think maybe the son got hooked on the glasses for a bit or something like that. several of the characters were gathered at the place of the guy who gave them the glasses, at one point for maybe a really holy showdown or something? Does this ring a bell?
