This was the first book in the children's books series.

I read these books in late 90s, early 2000s. They were translated to Latvian, but I'm positive they were originally written by an author from UK. I don't know when these books were written, but I think they were about early or mid 20th century period.

The first book in this series introduces us to orphaned brother and sister and their homeless (I think) friend who has a monkey. Our main heroes live with their (I think) uncle and aunt (possibly grandparents) who hate them. One day they decided to run away. They got on a row boat and swam to an island in the middle of a lake. They built a shelter there and the whole book is basically about their adventures on the island.

I remember even less about the other books, but in one of them they were in some jungle setting (possibly in Africa) where they found their lost parents. There was also an eclipse, which was an important event in the book. I think in this book they met another friend who was a prince of some country.

In another book they spend Christmas in some house in the middle of a mountain.

In another book the homeless friend with a monkey finds his father.
