Hi, I'm Jason, or "J.K. Bailey." I have two books so far, part 1 and 2 of a sci-fi/fantasy trilogy.

She studied animation production at College of the Canyons and has produced several web comics, including Trainer Wants to Fight! which somehow got its own page on TVTropes. T. K. likes interesting stories, well-crafted worlds, and memorable characters, and is passionate about creating quality, intelligent, slightly offbeat media that everyone can enjoy. She lives in California, where she enjoys not having to deal with snow because it is terrifying. T. K.’s many nerdy interests include paleontology, astronomy, computing history, and pretending to be a samurai.
I've self-published the Egypt trilogy, a three-book fiction series, and one non-fiction book. My fifth will soon be on preorder.
My Goodreads bio: From the first day my elementary school teacher read my essay to the class, I knew I wanted to be a writer. But life got in the way, and that dream was not realized until years later when I returned to school and had my first short story published in P'an Ku, the college magazine.
From there I went on to win honorable mentions in Writer's Digest and other contests and have contributed to A Cup Of Comfort For Mothers and Chicken Soup For The Soul. I have also written hundreds of health and fitness articles for online magazines.
The Egypt series consists of Coming Out Of Egypt, In The Wilderness and In the Promised Land in that order.

The good news is, publishing a book of any size is free nowadays! (I'm assuming you're talking about indie self-publishing, not trying to sell your manuscript to a publishing house, but if not, please feel free to correct me.) There are some good self-publishers out there who are print-on-demand, which means you can get your book all ready to print for free, and they only charge when someone actually orders a copy.
The process is pretty straightforward. You'll first want to find a self-publisher that you like working with. I've used Lulu.com and Amazon's KDP paperback publishing. They're both good, but vary slightly in the print options they give you (for example, Lulu has a wider range of page sizes and layouts you can publish in, while KDP mostly prints "standard" paperbacks). Then, you just format your manuscript as a digital document that follows their formatting guidelines, submit, and you're good to go! Both Lulu and Amazon allow you to do this completely for free, with no subscription costs or anything of the sort. They make profit off of a cut of the revenue from your book sales.
As for headaches, it depends on what personally gives you a headache, but I'd say probably the most time-consuming part of the whole process is formatting the manuscript to look like a book. You have to be concerned with margins, layout, style consistency, page numbers, etc. and you need to know how to use your word processor of choice well enough to get it to do those things. If you feel like that's something you don't want to deal with, you can always ask someone else for help.
