This is the thread where you can ask questions and we will post an FAQ in the next message of this thread as questions are answered.
Many questions related to tasks can be found here. You should also check the FAQ in the next post before posting a new question

FAQ

Q:If it states: A minimum of one 20 point and two 10 point tasks must be chosen each month - does that mean you could also read e.g. two 50 points tasks and one 20 point tasks, should the tasks just happen to fit for your books? Or do you have to read one 20 point and two 10 point tasks and whatever else you want (as long as you have the one 20 point and two 10 point tasks as well)?
A: You would have to read one 20 point and two 10 point tasks in the month. Your other books can be for any of the tasks remaining.

Q: When do we receive the spreadsheet template for this challenge?
A: You'll get your individual spreadsheet sometime next week before the challenge starts.

Q: Is there a minimum page requirement? And, if yes, what is it?
A: Unless the task says otherwise, 100 pages is the minimum.

Q: Can we include audio only books that don't have a print version (lots of audible originals happening recently, lol)
A: Yes, so long as they are over 3 hours. This just holds for this challenge - we'll look at it in terms of page counts for team challenges.

Q: For read a book where a character is a doctor, are we looking for MD or would a psychologist or other PhD be okay?
A: If the character has a PhD (whether in history, biscuit making or science), their title is Dr so I will accept for this task. Medical doctors are also welcome.

Q: For the task: Read a book shelved (listed on the first page of the "top shelves" of the book) as school - plurals and minor spelling variations are acceptable
would "high-school" or "school books" be ok?
A: Yes for school books, but no to the addition of any other word.

Q: Can books be started before the start of March if they are finished after?
A: Books have to have been started after 00.00 UTC on 1st March,

The tasks for March are up if you want to see what they are like.

Hello! I'm new to this group and I signed up for this challenge earlier. Where can we find the tasks for March?

message 9: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1885 comments I think the link to the tasks might be wrong in the 2. How to play - paragraph ("You will be given a list of tasks to choose from each month on this spreadsheet that..."). The "this spreadsheet" -link leads to the overall tracking spreadsheet, not to the tasks.

message 10: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5684 comments Mod
Sorry about that, I had it on another of the spreadsheets for organising this, but didn't copy it across to the tracking spreadsheet. March tasks are now definitely there on the sheet linked to in the info post.

And for anyone wondering about dates, it starts on 1st March and runs for the calendar months of March and April.

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) For read a book where a character is a doctor, are we looking for MD or would a psychologist or other PhD be okay?

message 21: by Audrey Jane (new)

Audrey Jane | 1815 comments Quick question about the category. The example of Sally confuses me a bit :
If Sally reads 6 books in March and 4 in April, she would still be considered in the EDGE category as for one of the months she was eligible for that category.

Does this mean that if you read 6 books a month you fit in the Edge category even if Centre is less than 10 books/month ?

Or is my brain too tired right now to process the information correctly... please enlighten me :)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5684 comments Mod
My brain is too sleep deprived with a 3 month old to have properly checked the rules. Sorry for the confusion!

It should be talking about 11 books (and will do when I'm next in the mod account.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6397 comments For the question - Character with a name such as Joy, Harmony, Grace - does it have to be main character? Can it be a secondary or unimportant character if they still have dialogue and interact with the main characters? I'm thinking of a personal assistant for example.

message 27: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1885 comments I have a question about the task "Read a book that can be purchased in a box set/bundle/anthology". If the original work can be purchased in a box set/bundle, but I read a translated edition, which to my knowledge is not available in a box set/bundle, is that allowed?

So long as they have some dialogue then they count.

If the original can be, I'm happy for a translated copy to count.

Gemma - you should have an email about it now. If not there are links on the spreadsheet linked in the instruction posts.

If you want to check how many times you've posted to every group you are in, you can see via the community menu at the top, then groups. On the group page, if you press my groups, it'll will give you a list of your groups and how often you have posted to each of them.

Pretty please? :)

Sorry to hassle, I guess we are a competitive bunch. Looking forward to the challenge. 😉

Hi fellow players, I didn't get an email as well, but our individual spreadsheets are in this link. It's on the column J that says "Player spreadsheet link." Hope that helps!

Yes, I'd seen it, hence the access request, lol.

Patience. Not my strong suit :D :D

No worries Sophie. The request just came through.

(some of us have the annoying combination of eagerness and lack of patience. Feel free to tell said people - well, me anyway - to get lost and be patient :D)

Don't worry I certainly will when needed! Somehow I'd put email addresses in for everyone but none of the emails sent. Should all be fixed now!

Hello Sophie: Where do I find the tasks, please? I clicked the link for the master spreadsheet, thinking that's where they were listed, but I only see weird entries (besides our names, that is, those were clear). Help! Thanks!

Meg, that are down the bottom of the spreadsheet. There is a tab that says March Tasks along from the category leaderboards.

message 46: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5684 comments Mod
There is also a copy of them on your individual sheet as an easier reference point.

If anyone is looking at the leaderboards confused, they will be sorted properly at the start of next week.

message 47: by Meg (new)

Meg (makeli2) Thank you, Sophie! Found the tasks.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6397 comments Thanks Sophie for all the work you're doing for our challenge enjoyment. Really looking forward to making a start tomorrow.

message 49: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Hey mods! You might want to check the status spreadsheet. The leaderboard tabs need to be updated.

Btw, the personal spreadsheets also are not counting the books read. I fixed mine, is a simple formula, but just wanted to leave it out there.

message 50: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5684 comments Mod
The leaderboards may well be deleted until sign ups close on 10th so that I only have to do the formulas once. Unless people are desperate to have them before that.

Thanks for the heads up on the book counting. Will look into that and fix it for everyone.
