I didn't really know what this was about before reading it, but I was hooked from the first few pages. It didn't get five stars from me, because I wasn't that thrilled about the main character or the romance. It wasn't bad, and the characters are developed I just wasn't as connected as I wanted to be to it. It is well paced and has enough action to keep the story going. Highly recommend.

Deadly Heat
Lora, a firefighter, calls in the SSD when she suspects they have a serial arsonist. She also lost her firefighter boyfriend in one of the arsonist's blazes. It's become personal for her. Kenton, is one of the agents assigned to the case.
I did like the beginning, Lora saves Kenton. Lora is pretty kick ass and holds her own with Kenton (who is also a pretty big alpha). I liked the pacing and while this is pretty insta-love, I did like the epilogue that showed the relationship was taking a big stride forward. The couple from the other book (Monica and Luke) also make a big stride in their relationship (it's a blink and miss it, but this isn't their book).
This book is a pretty good example of good romantic suspense. The romance is front and center with the suspense taking a backseat, but it's not way in the back (make sense?). The suspense is still a good part of the story.

I can't get enough of this series right now. Another great couple - a fae woman and her immortal werewolf. Fae magic, travelling around the world, great adventures and some seriously awesome ass kicking out of bad guys, excellent characters. What else do you need from paranormal romance book? A good romance of course and here it is excellently done. No cheesy insta-love but deliciously slow burning attraction which is not the only focus of the story. Just the way I like it.

In between book in Bargainer series telling the backstory about Desmond Flynn. All about his childhood, his revenge, becoming the Night King and meeting Callie. Told from Des' POV, this novella really helped understanding why he is the way he is and explained a lot about the beginning of his and Callie's relationship.
I wish it could have been longer. Definitely deserved a full length book.

Review:
So while this was a good book I think the reason it took me so long is it had been awhile since I read the other two books in the series, and I just wasn't as interested in the characters and developments as I was in the other books. I feel like it was still done well, and ends the trilogy nicely, but I resorted to finishing it in as an audiobook. I was trying to avoid that because I really enjoy that it's mixed media format and I like that the pages are so detailed and well done.

Fate's Edge
Very enjoyable. Audrey (in my mind I kept calling her Aubrey) and Kaldar compliment each other very well. Since Bayou Moon, I really wanted Kaldar's story. I thought both were very competent and they compliment each other so well. The war is stilling ongoing between the Hand and the Mirror. A new baddie, Helena, is introduced. Spider is her uncle.
Anyway there is a lot of action in this one. Gaston, George, and Jack have significant parts in this one. George (necromancer) and Jack (lynx changeling) are Rose's (On the Edge) younger brothers. Next book is Richard's (Kaldar's brother and Cerise's cousin)!
Recommended!

Dark Awakening
Interesting caste system with vampires. Each group originates with a god/goddess and has a unique to them ability (turning to smoke, being super fast, shifting). However with most groups, you have ones who think they are better and treat others as such. So, not surprising in this world, vamps can e snobby assholes.
Tynan is a Cait Sith. He can shift to a cat. The Cait Sith are also considered to be the lowest class and serve the Ptolemy (considered to be the highest). The Cait Sith that don't go into service (for lack of a better word) live in exile/poverty. Something/someone is killing off the Ptolemy. Ty is tasked with finding a Seer to figure out who it is so they may be stopped. Lily is an orphan and was adopted by a famous family. She has her own trauma in her past and she is different.
While this could have been an interesting concept it fell flat for me. Ty's blind obedience to a group/people/person who didn't value him was frustrating and went on too long. I didn't particularly like Lily or Ty and could not connect to either. Lily's abilities are interesting, but were figured out too easily. I didn't really like the romance either. The secondary characters were just okay.

This is the first book I've read by Grady Hendrix, and it is so good! At first I thought it was just going to be funny and not so much horror, but I was wrong. It was creepy and gorey, and it was so good! While it is a vampire book, it is so much more than that. And the vampire is so much more sinister than I imagined. Highly recommend!

This is Dina's sister Maud's book. Her surviving the savage planet of Karhari and meeting her future husband , vampire Marshal Arland.
When Arland takes Maud and her daughter Helen to his homeplanet, things are not easy for a human. Maud meets a pretty hostile welcoming and has to use all her skills to earn respect and future for her and her daughter among powerful vampires.
Another awesome kick ass heroine and little Helen is adorable.

Instead I'll be going with The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L. Jensen, tagged 10 times as Kick Ass Heroine.

A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik

A cross between HP and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Not quite JK Rowling level but interesting and fast paced story set in magic school with abundance of monsters lurking around.
The worldbuilding and magic system got sometimes pretty complicating and confusing to navigate with fast paced action but other than that it was very enjoyable read.
