I remember reading this in the mid 90's. It was about three girls, and one was called Selena. Selena's mother was a witch. If i remember rightly the third of the girls was new and Selena initiated her by telling her to take her clothes off and stand in the garden after proclaiming herself to be the 'queen' because she found a bean in her cake. A lot was made about Selena's hair also, as it was glossy and black and she had some sort of tiara that stood out. I remember it being a really good story but it was so long ago. It's bugging me so much. I tried Googling and searching on here and amazon

Location of the book i think was America, and it was set probably in the late 80s or early 90s which was when i read it

Are these girls teenagers or younger children?

I woke up this morning and remembered the title. It's called the Power of the Shade by Jacqueline Wilson. It was bugging me for days!
