86% (view spoiler)[I knew that Harper was going to go to Grey and ask for help. I didn't expect for Grey to be so cold with her though. Especially when it was Rhen that whipped him and Tycho, not Harper, AND Harper helped them escape. It's like he is holding her responsible for Rhen's actions. It makes it feel like their friendship meant nothing to him. I really hope that isn't true. He says that he will help defeat Lilith but he will not rescue Rhen. He is still angry at Rhen, understandably, but I think that deep down he cares about Rhen more than he realizes. I don't think that he will abandon Rhen to Lilith's machinations.

I still love how brave and determined Harper was in Syhl Shallow. She wouldn't let anyone cow her even though pretty much everyone there hated her. I have always admired her character.

I am not surprised that Chesley turned out to be one of Lia Mara's advisors. There is definitely a plot going on beneathe the surface in Syhl Shallow. I just haven't figured out exactly what it is yet. Part of me thinks that Nolla Verin is involved somehow. Like maybe she is trying to take the throne from her sister? I may be wrong about that but it has definitely crossed my mind. And it would kind of make sense.

I am wondering if the creature that chased Harper was Iisak's son? Or another scraver that is now allied with Lilith or under her command somehow? (hide spoiler)]

Yeah, everything is making sense for the most part. I didn't reread any of Heart but I didn't feel lost or anything going into this one.

Finished! (view spoiler)[I was kind of disappointed with Lilith's defeat. I mean, Rhen turning into the beast and killing her was cool but it all happened so quickly that I felt a little cheated. I guess I was expecting something more involved. Honestly, I kind of wish that Grey would have turned Harper into a beast instead of Rhen. And I really thought that Nolla Verin was plotting against her sister, but I guess not. I think that they story would have actually been better if she had and they had to face down that conflict in the end after Lilith was killed.

I really didn't like the ending at all. The rest of the book I loved but I thought that the ending was awful. It was anticlimactic and it left so much unresolved. I usually like a little more resolution in the end. I assumed that Grey would let Rhen rule Emberfall since he and Lia Mara were together. I mean, it will be hard for them to rule two kingdoms when they can't be in two places at once. Plus, Rhen already has all the knowledge of being a king and Grey has none at all. I think that Grey should have let Rhen be king of Emberfall and he could go rule Syhl Shallow with Lia Mara. It would have just made more sense. I liked that he wanted to give Rhen more purpose now that everything was taken away from him but it felt cheap. And it didn't even say what kind of position he wanted Rhen to have. He wanted his council, but what did that entail exactly? I did like that Lia Mara was pregnant at the end. I think that was fitting. And I think that they would both be wonderful parents. I'm not sure how I feel about Rhen's scars. And I felt that there should have been more finality regarding Rhen and Harper's relationship. I also wondered if the author would touch upon the fact that Grey could potentially send Harper, Jake, and Noah back to Washington, DC but she never did. I never got the impression that Noah wanted to be in their world, even though they clearly gained many friends there.

Overall, I loved this series. I loved all of this book except the ending. I'm not rioting or anything, but I still feel a bit disappointed by it. I am looking forward to the next series in this world featuring Tycho. I hope we get to see all of these characters in that series too. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ Here's the thing. I want to like Lia Mara. She is everything I want queens to be in fantasy stories. She is kind and forgiving and fair and tolerant and forward thinking. But her chapters are so boring to me. Even fifteen, with her and Grey. I just don't feel the chemistry with them at all. Honestly, he has more with Tycho. And it is just chapter after chapter of the two of them. It is so tedious. I would much rather Nolla get her own POV.
I really want to go back to Harper and Rhen and find out more about what's going on with Lilith. Even just the two of them are more entertaining for me. (hide spoiler)]

I felt the same way. I felt that the ending was very anticlimactic. The boss fight was underwhelming. And I didn't like how things ended for Rhen at all.

It was such a cop-out... Kind of glad to have that closed up. Curse was such a strong book and had so much going for it. But I just didn't like Grey or Lia
