I had this book as a kid. (Late 80's I think) It was about a girl who lived in caves with her family and had never seen the sun... until she ventured to the oldest tapestry, which, when touched turned to dust... revealing a door to the beautifully illustrated and sunny "outside". There was some interesting discovery (a la alice in wonderland) but the fun is cut short rather abruptly when a purple faced Bad-Guy-Chick-Monster-Thing shows up... (possibly on some type of cart or wagon)
My memory fades me as to the confrontation/battle/climax, but I do feel that the girl frees her people to be able to see the sun again, and go outside without fear...
This was one of those fancy art books where every single page is a masterpiece, and the signature on the art was in the form of a symbol, which was kinda fun to find hidden on each page... for a kid.
