YA Fantasy series? Young Franciscan monk learns about parallel worlds, has some powers. Read around 2010.

I don't know very much about the book, but i can remember one scene. The young franciscan monk (i think he is even called francisco) starts to bleed out of hands and feet and the monks have the feeling that it is a stigma. There are characters in different worlds that learn about the existence of their parallel worlds.
I read it around 2010.

How is the parallel worlds different from the monk's world? Is Christianity a main theme?

Does the young monk or others travel between these parallel worlds?

@Kris, i think the time period is around the 1950s to 200s but it hasnt a big role in the story, if i remember it correctly.
I unfortunately can't remember how the worlds are different. No, christian beliefs are not too important, but i think the christian church as an organisation has a minor role.
The monk can communicate and see into the other world and i THINK that he travels into it towards the end of the book.
