Middle Grade book. Boy in coma dreams he's in a jungle with a gorilla. Chapters alternate between him being aware he's in a hospital (but can't react) vs. exploring the jungle. Read 2006-2008.

This book was given to me by a teacher sometime in the years 2006-2008 (I was somewhere between 6th and 8th grade).

I vaguely remember the cover being a photo of a boy standing in front of a mist-covered jungle

Book is in English, and I'm assuming published in America.

The chapters alternate between him being aware of being in the hospital but he can't react to anything since he's in a coma and scenes where he's exploring this jungle. I also vaguely remember there being a gorilla that played a key part in the story.

Part of me wants to say it was titled something like INTO THE MIST but when I google that title, the book that comes up as a result is definitely not what I'm thinking of.
