This thread is where you can chat about all things PIFM, ask questions and once books have been read, review your selected reads. A complete free for all.

PLEASE NOTE:

PIFM is meant to be FUN and not to be taken seriously. I would appreciate it if all participants just chilled and not get worked up about voting, who votes, who doesn't, etc. Please bear in mind that some will just want to vote, many don't come on everyday and most of us have time constraints. I just want a relaxed approach to it all and for you all to just enjoy the process! I'd really appreciate your courtesy in this matter. Many thanks.

Vicki Willis It has been quiet around here.

How are you doing Patricia? Reading any good books lately?
When are you going to start your tomato seeds this year? I started mine too late last year and I only got a few plants to thrive.

message 3: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments Vicki, I am glad you reminded me. I believe I will start some seeds as soon as the weather warms a little more. By the way, I am reading The Good Sister by Sally Hepworth by Sally Hepworth. Didn't you read one of her books recently?

message 4: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments OOOh Tomatoes. I'm thinking March for me. Or when spring fever hits me too hard to stop. Patricia, you're in CA ? I have a greenhouse.

In book news, I just finished Murder on the Nile by Agatha Christie. The only book I'd read of hers before was And Then There Were None,

message 5: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis That is awesome Perri, to have a green house. I think my seeds were stunted because I left them outside over night last year.

Yes Patricia. I just finished The Mother-in-Law by Sally Hepworth The Mother-in-Law. It was not that exciting or surprising.
I have The Good Sister ready to go so I will be waiting to see how you liked jt.

message 6: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments Welcome Jennifer. I have voted for one of your books and posted it. It is a great way to pick your next read when you have a cast of thousands like I do.

message 7: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments Vicki, I just finished The Good Sister and found the first portion of the book to be a little slow. The last 100 pages or so were much more interesting. I actually stayed up late to finish it.

message 8: by Sue (new)

Sue | 131 comments Sorry to be late with voting, will do it today. In the middle of a house move so spending my time packing boxes, 3 weeks to go and so much still to do.

message 9: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis Yes! Moving is so much work!
Good luck with that!

message 10: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments We need to recruit people to participate in the April PIFM. This has been so much fun that I hate to see it just wane. I have found myself looking closely at my collection of books and trying to decide which to read next. PIFM has always been helpful.

message 11: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis Yes, hopefully some more people will join us!

My winner this month is When All Is Said
I have it on audible.

message 12: by Patricia (last edited Mar 08, 2021 03:20PM) (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments Papa Hemingway is my winner. I have had it on my shelves over 20 years. It is about time I actually read it.

message 13: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Sorry, guys! I seem to have bypassed March altogether. Hope no one needed a tiebreaker.

I see March was a quiet month. Hope all here are ok. April threads are now up.

message 15: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis I started my book on audible and it isn't really "my" kind of book. I find these type of "character/life reads" not very interesting. It sounded good on the description and it isn't bad, but not very exciting.

message 16: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments I just started to read Papa Hemingway Papa Hemingway by A.E. Hotchner . So far, I love it. He was quite a character.

message 17: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis Glad it is a good one P!

message 18: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis I finished my March pick When All Is Said by Anne Griffin When All Is Said.
I am in the minority, but it was a 3 star read for me. I can see why a lot of people loved it and felt it was a heartfelt story. I found it a bit slow and boring.

I am also in the middle of my February read. It is awful. I hate it. I should have DNF'd a long time ago, but now I am too far in. This is one of the worst books I have ever read.
Deadly Waters by Dot Hutchison Deadly Waters
It is so strange because I have read this author before and really like her books.
This one is very inflammatory and stereotypical and man hating. I don't have one good thing to say about it.

message 20: by Sue (new)

Sue | 131 comments So my house sale and move completed yesterday and I’m looking forward to being able to sit and read at last. I haven’t even started my March read yet, half way through another book so some major catching up to do!

message 21: by Christine (new)

Christine Hatfield (christinesbookshelves) | 5526 comments Oh that’s cool Sue and good for you Sue and you’ll get back to reading your books in March Sue and I hope your book is going good Sue

message 22: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis That's awesome Sue! Good luck with all that.

Christine - how was the book about the Golden State killer?

message 23: by Sue (new)

Sue | 131 comments Yay, started my March read today.

message 24: by Sumer (new)

Sumer | 3 comments Hello! I’m new around here, and this is my first foray into a goodreads club, so please forgive me if this is a stupid question. Where can I find the rules? Also, do y’all not pick a book to read every month?

message 25: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis @Sumer
This thread works a little different. We don't all read the same book.
We choose books from other people's lists for them to read.
Check out the READ and SELECTION threads for the specific rules.

It basically works like this
You choose 5 or whatever number books you might want to read and post them on the READ thread for that month.
We will each vote which one we think you should read on the SELECTION thread.
Then you read and comment on this thread.

Hope that helps.

message 26: by Christine (new)

Christine Hatfield (christinesbookshelves) | 5526 comments Vicki Willis the book called End Game of The Most Dangerous Game Golden State Killer by Anne Penn was really good and oh that’s cool Sue

message 27: by Sue (new)

Sue | 131 comments I finished Thief River Falls yesterday, it was a good read, fast paced. The ending caught me completely off-guard so all in all a good choice.

message 28: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis That is one I own Sue. Glad to hear it is good.

message 29: by Sue (new)

Sue | 131 comments Vicki Willis wrote: "That is one I own Sue. Glad to hear it is good."

Yes I’d recommend it - and quite a quick read too.

message 30: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments I just finished Papa Hemingway by A.E. Hotchner Papa Hemingway. This is one of the best books I've read in years. Now, I feel it necessary to read some of his books. I can't believe that I haven't read a book or short story by Papa. Where have I been?

message 31: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis Wow! Interesting!

message 32: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments Vicki, it is a shame that your March pick wasn't good. At least you finished it. I tend to do the same thing . I always hope that the end has some great surprise.

message 33: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Wow! I totally blew off PIFM for March!

message 34: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis I was wondering where you have been, Kirsten. Read anything good lately?
