Children’s book. A family moves to the countryside from the city. The kids meet a local man who is an animal/wildlife lover and has a pet red squirrel and also on one occasion manages to get a badger to come out to play and I think an otter or a stoat or a weasel on another. Anyway, kids go off with him all the time and have adventures in the woods. I think his name begins with B.

Read in 1970s. May have been set anywhere from 1900s to 1950s. There was a red squirrel on the cover.
