I believe it was set in the Arctic. Not sure if it was Alaska or not but I remember one particular scene where they were shooting at the wolves from a helicopter. I don't remember when I read it. I don't remember how she got separated from her family. I think she wandered into the wilderness.

I don't remember when I read it, it's fiction and I don't remember how she became a part of the pack
Julie of the wolves reminds me of it but I'm not sure if that's it.
