Kristie | 19143 comments I'm not sure what happened. My cc received the charge, but no confirmation. Maybe I just put my email address in wrong. Who knows.

I almost added an herb to the tea, then thought I would just try it as is. I can always add a cinnamon stick, cloves, or something in there later. :) It sounds good, so I'm looking forward to receiving it. It would be great if it was here before the toppler.

They are still selling our tea! Proper Toppler & Tipsy Toppler. You will find them towards the bottom of the Signature Blends page."

That's so amazing!! It was years back! Sadly, they don't deliver outside the US.

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 2277 comments I am not sure i understand this but i dont have any on my TBR with those words I am happy to search for books I can maybe commit to 3 in the week

Books i could read for words the brackets are to tell me how i can get them

Butterfly Butterfly Skin (BB)
cold Cold Comfort
Dark A Dark And Stormy Night (KU)
dawn Bartholomew Mills and the January Dawn (KU)
deadly Deadly News (scribd)

these are just an example i could get something for every word but is the idea to read a chain with the same word in every book or to move from a starting word

say i read Deadly news and then the next person read something with News as starting word or in title

Could you copy and paste this message into our team thread where we can help you figure out how they'll fit the chains we've currently identified?

You do not need every book in a chain to have the exact same word, unless your team set it up that way. You just need any one word from a title to be in the next title.

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Sorry, I thought Marie was asking more specific things to our team's strategy, not a question clarifying the toppler's criteria.

I think the first half of her question was team specific, but the second part looked like something I could answer.

Jayme | 4519 comments Received my "Toppler Teas" yesterday!! Can't wait to sip and read.

Thanks Janice for sharing the thread about the teas. I'm in the process of creating a tea blend for my "Beach Gals." This summer is the 25th year that we've been renting a beach house together and was looking for the perfect celebration gift. :)

Kristie | 19143 comments I got my tea yesterday too. :)

Funny thing is that I have a tea diffuser ball, but I ordered the bags just because they're easier. It is still loose tea. They just give you bags to use. lol

message 74: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19143 comments I’m still looking forward to my tea! We are having an ice storm here and my electricity went out hours ago so no heating water for me yet. It is pretty miserable here. I’m hoping they are able to fix the problem soon.

message 75: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Hopper | 2421 comments I hate that. I hope you have a fireplace or generator or some way to stay warm. Scary stuff. I am halfway through my first book. It is....something. I dozed off a couple of hours ago,for about 20 minutes. This was around 3:00. When I woke up, I thought it was night. It was and is so dark outside. Low temps tonight but I’m not complaining considering what you are dealing with at the moment.

message 76: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19143 comments We do not have a generator and will probably get one for next winter.

We never had one in our old house and we would lose electricity all the time. Fortunately, we had a wood fireplace in that house so we didn’t get too cold. We had one particularly bad ice storm there and lost electricity for a week. We decided to finally get a generator. We sold the house a couple of years later and never once needed the generator. That generator stayed with the house.

Funny thing is we’ve been saying for a while that we really miss our wood fireplace. We have a gas fireplace, but it looks pathetic and doesn’t throw any heat so we never use it. We have someone coming to the house next week to give us an estimate to get it replaced with a wood fireplace. Unfortunately, that doesn’t help us now.

So, for now I’m just snuggled in blankets with the dogs and hoping they can fix it quickly. It’s been out for about 6 hours now. Fingers are crossed.

Beth - You can join team one, if you’d like.

message 82: by Jayme, Moderator (last edited Feb 15, 2021 04:31AM) (new)

Jayme | 4519 comments Hi Kristie - Crossing fingers you all have power soon.

Could you clarify scoring? I've been peeking at other teams' spreadsheets (I know I'm competitive) and it seems that teams are scoring the books read differently.

Is it that you get 15 points for each book read if you go over 9 books?
example: A team has read 10 books so they have 150 total points
or
1 -4 books= 20 pts (5 pts each), 5 -8 books = 40 pts (10 pts each), 9-10 books = 30 pts (15 pts each) 90 total points and any book read after would be 15 points

Also, the scoring is per chain not total accumulated books?
I just want to make sure everyone is on the same page :)

message 83: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2974 comments Heh, I hadn't thought about the latter way .... I saw it as the former.

Either way though, Kristie knows they way scoring should be so it would have all come out in the wash at the end :)

message 84: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments I went your 2nd way as Kristie wrote it:

1st 4 books in the chain = 5 points per book
books # 5-8 in chain = 10 points each
book # 9 and beyond in chain = 15 points each

and the scoring would be per chain.

message 85: by Jayme, Moderator (last edited Feb 15, 2021 05:35AM) (new)

Jayme | 4519 comments Our team read it as the second way too, but when I saw Lynn's scoring I thought "hey, we might have more points." so I thought I'd ask our brilliant toppler leader. :)

It's the second way, Jayme. The scoring starts over with each chain. So if you read 16 books but split them between two chains you would need to start with the 5 point books again.

Adding on to your example, if you had two chains, the first with 10 books, it would be 90 points total. Then, you have a second chain, with six books, you would start over - the first four 5 points each & the next two 10 points each, so a total of 40 points for the second chain.
