The Hate U Give has been chosen as our second BOTM for February. We have chosen this because February is black history month.
Discussions for this book will be held here.
I am the discussion leader.

I started reading this a few days ago, and I am almost halfway through the book ( I read too slow).
The message it gives is really, really important in today's world. As we all know, the BLM movement, upon which this book is based on, returned to headlines last year due to the killing of George Floyd. These incidents keep happening again and again. That's why books like The Hate U Give are so important. They change our perspective and educate us towards equality and justice.
I would also like to point out that the book is not at all sermonising. It doesn't preach. It just shows you what's happpening and leaves you to form your own opinion about it.

Some white people have got offended by it, but I think that's the beauty of this book. It shows that racism is not just limited to white people hating on the black. The hate goes both ways. White people started it, but the blacks too want their revenge, and that's why they go hating on white people. It's totally normal to have feelings of revenge when you have been wronged for so long. There's no point in getting offended by it.

Noemie (thelunarreader) I'm starting it tomorrow after I go pick it up from the library. I'm excited to read it!

Leena (leena23) I’m just starting it, I’m annotating it and I’ve already made quite a few notes. It’s going to be a heart wrenching journey for sure. But definitely will hit on important topics, as it already has some.

Tris | 74 comments I finished it a couple of days ago. It was truly amazing.

I finished the book yesterday, and I was like wow, did it just end? I want more!
I am now reading Concrete Rose because I am so hung over THUG, that if I don't read the prequel now, I will go into a reading slump.
