Denis Hearn | 6 comments I am preparing my next novel "Bagger Island" for publication. I am also working on the cover with the same artist who worked with me on "Claddagh Pool." I hope to have Bagger Island available on Amazon, by the end of March.

Excerpt: The rusty steel trawler, Girl Anne lolled in the ebbing tide of the Celtic Sea off the southeast coast of Ireland. Her crew had completed two drag-trawls up and down St. George’s Channel and now, as the waning sun slid westward over the spine of Ireland, it was time for the last haul-out before returning to the shelter of Cara Quay and the cool taste of a few pints at Moran’s Pub.
“Midships: Take in the net!” shouted Eamon, the first mate
Skipper Bill Blake eased back the throttles and slowed Girl Anne to a workable speed. The crew hustled to their stations as the giant winch slowly began to coil the grinding cables over the rusty stern, pulling the giant orange meshes on board. The dripping net slid over the aft deck, loaded with herring sparkling like treasure in the evening sun.
“Stand by for the end of the trawl,” said Eamon, as the voluminous orange meshes coiled around the well-worn spool. He directed the crew to manhandle the pregnant purse onto the rolling deck.
“Wait! Stop the winch!” He shouted. “There’s something’s stuck in the net!”
“What the hell is that?” shouted Gerry, the chief deckhand, as he moved closer to the pile of quivering scales. First mate, Padraig, helped Gerry push some of the fish out of the way, “Jaysus, looks like a feckin’ body in there!”

Brad Carl (brad_carl) I am working on the follow up (Book 2) to my debut "Grey Areas". First draft has been done for awhile. I let it simmer for a long time as I finalized the first book and released it. Now I'm in the process of fleshing a number of things out as it will be necessary to cover a lot of ground in this book.

I love doing this and wish it was my full time job.

Melissa Kuipers | 3 comments I'm about halfway through my third romance novel which is the second installment of a series I have planned. The first installment is selling okay in a popular genre that I enjoy writing so I figured I should try to the whole cross-marketing thing by creating a series. I also work fulltime though so my writing time is limited...

Jonathan Jones (jtgjones) | 2 comments I have a science fiction novel coming out in May and I'm currently editing the sequel. I am also working on the third book in my children's book series.

message 112: by Arley (new)

Arley Dial (arley1977) I just finished the first draft of a historical fiction novel set during the Apache wars (1880's) in Arizona. While I let that project rest, I am working on the outline for a more light piece featuring gamblers in the old west. After a long (and somewhat melancholy) journey through the Apache wars I felt I wanted to do something a little more light and maybe even humorous.

H.R. Kasper (H_R_Kasper) | 2 comments I'm currently working on the sequel to my book The Mirror, which is titled The ShadowMaster. It will be the second book in the Worlds Collide series. So far, there's been high stakes, plenty of tension, a couple of tear-jerking moments, and even a prison break. I hope to finish the first draft up in the next month and commence editing and formatting.

Will Gibson | 6 comments I’m doing another round of revisions on my novel LEAVES CAN’T FLY. This is how I revise, in rounds. It is such a thrill to see your story become stronger as you add complexity to some character or to the story line. Or watch the whole novel suddenly become clearer and tighter when you eliminate a disconnect that should have been discovered in earlier edits. Of course you can overdo revising, which is where experience comes in.

Incidentally, LEAVES CAN’T FLY is about a proud hard-working businessman named Kolton Phelps, who took on a business partner and later found him to be a partner from hell. Their relationship started out with great promise, and their business flourished. Then all hell broke loose. Have you ever watched a fly that's caught in a spider's web? How it tangles itself up all the more when it tries to fight its way out? The more it struggles and kicks, the more a prisoner it becomes. Kolton Phelps became that fly. The more he kicked, the more he became entangled in a power struggle with his greedy, hard-headed partner. Even the wives became victims.

Denise Rodgers (Denise_Rodgers) | 14 comments Working on my Jeweltown Mystery series. The main character, Bella Blumer, is a great jeweler, but her life is a perpetual work in progress, especially when it comes to keeping her mouth shut. She's spent the last year bad-mouthing her ex-husband and his new and improved, younger model. So when he turns up dead on the anniversary of their divorce, everyone assumes she finally popped him. Of course, book number 1, Deadly Diamonds, is all about Bella proving her innocence, with the inept help of her family. Book #2(currently with two beta readers) is Murderous Emeralds. And book #3 is Poison Pearl. My plan is to release book #1 this spring.

Hi Riley, I had an uncle who was a member of the greatest generation. He was killed in France toward the end of WW11. I'm looking forward to reading your stories.

I'm currently working on releasing my first novel, The Wiregrass, ETA August 2015. It is in the Southern Gothic tradition.

message 119: by Arley (new)

Arley Dial (arley1977) Trying to go funny with this one. My last work (set during the end of the Apache wars) was pretty tragic, and though I am happy with how it came out, I think I need a break from the gloom.

Renee Marski | 26 comments I'm currently working on two books. One is a young adult novel about two sisters which I am letting sit for a couple weeks as I just finished the first draft.

The second is an erotica novel I've been slowly writing for some time. It's a five part story so each part has to be written separately. It's coming along, it's just slow going.

Sounds like everyone is pretty busy with their work. Good luck everyone!!!

Reading is Life | 3 comments Right now I’m working on the 1st draft of both my novels.

The 1st one is Love for an Angel. It is about the lives of angels and demons. The battle for earth and human souls. It covers a wide range of topics from what happens after we die, biblical references and what the life of supernatural creatures could be like.

The 2nd book is called Clash of Tides. This story is about a young woman who always believed you can’t control the flow of life. That we aren’t in charge of our own lives so why fight against the current. She accepts what life has given her until one day she meets a merman.

I’m hoping to have both books done this year. The way I plotted them out leads to a trilogy.

Christi Smit (ChristiSmit) | 45 comments Working on my first Science Fiction novel. About 26000 words in.

It is an idea I have had for a very long time, putting together all the best parts of everything I have encountered during my short life.

Will probably be releasing it by June/July this year.

Just finished editing Dancing With the Dead (SF/Fantasy) and gave a copy to my second beta reader. Working on Alvar's Spear, the sequel. Plan to publish DWTD at the point where I can be certain Alvar's Spear will be ready to go within two months of DWTD publication.
Here's the back cover blurb from Dancing With the Dead: "For me, to live is to die," Fahd al-Sharfa said. "I want to destroy Luna City and the space stations and become a martyr for truth."
But Fahd, a brilliant astrophysicist, never counted on falling in love with Doctor Quenby, his Antal coworker, whom he was now about to kill.
Nor had he realized the tenacity of Vice-Marshal Natil's Eagle Legion, determined to stop him.
And especially Aidan Good...who danced with the dead.

message 134: by Bruce (new)

Bruce S. | 1 comments I'm finishing up my third book "Trial by Witchcraft". This is book 3 of the Time Travelers' series. I haven't done much marketing: mainly word of mouth, a book fair as one of the authors, and an article in the local newspaper.

The first two books, "Time of the Ripper" and "Countdown to Camelot", start the journeys of some college friends through time and history as they come face to face with the greatest evil known. There's a lot of my heart poured into them. I actually could picture these books as movies, which I'm sure all authors say about their books.

How do I get people on Goodreads to read my books? Any feedback would be appreciated.

So I haven't updated this about myself in awhile, so I thought I'd come in and drop a post.
Been working with Big World Network to finish editing my latest release, a zombie apocalypse story titled "Everyone Dies at the End", while finishing writing on a wonderful story that I'm pretty sure is going to get me sent to hell.
Also, I'm nearing the end of the fourth book in my Breath of the Titans series, and hope to have it completed sometime in the coming weeks.

I just finished the first draft of a young adult novel and am letting it sit while i work on part four of a novel i have been rewriting. Its a mix of erotica and fantasy. All the while several ideas are swimming in my head begging to be written. Having self control is hard.

I also finished reading Salem's Lot this morning. It caused more ideas lol.

message 143: by Claire (new)

Claire Brown (clairelbrown) | 12 comments I'm working on "The Poppy Garden", - What would you do if your perfect life disappeared in an instant? If the man you loved didn’t know you, didn’t remember meeting you, falling in love or getting married to you? Sky Flynn thought she had it all, she was the happiest she’d ever been from the moment she met Nick Robinson until the moment a military officer showed up at her door at 2am then things changed.

This story has come about as I was looking for a way to write a book that would honour my grandfather who was a RAF Tail gunner in WW2 - As there is limited information on what happened to him and as he would only ever tell me a child friendly version of his experience and died before I was old enough to ask more direct questions I decided to look at the way he coped with his experiences and the things that helped him reconnect with his family and live his life to the full once he returned home

Have 5 chapters written on the next book in the First Woman Trilogy and find myself thinking about it all the time now. The main characters are my daily companions. This will be the first book I've written using Scrivener, and so far I'm liking it a lot.

P.D. Workman (pdworkman) Just finished first draft of "Mito, a Medical Kidnap Thriller", and am letting that one sit for a month.

Ran through an edit cycle on "Between Brothers".

Working on a rewrite of an old manuscript, which still needs a proper title...

Outline, research, and cover concept completed for "Crying for a Dream", my planned novel for April Camp NaNo.

"June and Justin" is with my proofreader.

"Cynthia has a Secret" is with beta readers; I have a few minor changes, and then it will be off for final edits.

I need to get "By-Pass, Breaking the Pattern #3" formatted for Smashwords and also get it up on Google Play.

So I pretty much have books in every stage right now...

message 147: by Harry (new)

Harry | 2 comments Hi all. I've just released by fourth book (after a book of poetry and two novels). It's a book of flash fiction entitled Little Exits, a literary and imaginative exploration of the world of death and dying. Sounds morbid, I know, but surprisingly, there is humour, poignancy, sexiness, and everything else under the sun embedded in these very short stories. Best (and craziest) thing I've written. It's available on my website at www.posnerbooks.com. Cheers, all.
