Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Finished the Kane and Abel trilogy yesterday, while I did really enjoy the first one, the other two weren't that good. Hopefully without spoiling it, the second was a major rehash of the first, and the third was altered to become the third book, but it didn't work for me.

Jim | 21809 comments Well you've spared me the job of reading them :-)

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments Finished Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, which I really enjoyed, but which I also thought over-long.

Started We by Yevgeny Zamyatin, the Russian dystopian novel supposed to have been the inspiration for George Orwell's 1984. I'm 13% through and it's not making the slightest bit of sense so far (I'm definitely reading the English translation).

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments Just finished the utterly tedious We by Yevgeny Zamyatin (precursor to George Orwell's wonderful 1984).

Just started An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen (psychological thriller).

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments I'm really bad at posting on here, have read Codename Villanelle and The Quiche of Death this month, the first wasn't as good as the TV series, the second was fun, and I even managed to overlook the fact they changed the looks of Agatha Raisin, would read more of those but not the rest of the Killing Eve books. Hoping to squeeze a couple of books in, with my time off

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments Finished reading Stone Butch Blues by Leslie Feinberg (being queer in the US before the 1969 Stonewall Riots), and The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett (having black blood and passing as white in the US a few decades ago), both of which I really enjoyed.

Now reading Dead Lions by Mick Herron (British Secret Service thriller) and The Elements of Typographic Style by Robert Bringhurst (a classic manual on typography).

Jim | 21809 comments Just finished the first book of Robert Harris, Cicero trilogy and started the second
Imperium: A Novel of Ancient Rome

Enjoyed the first one and the second is as good,

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments I finished Book of Souls and started The Shadow Sister and decided to start reading two books at once again, with Purgatory being my bathroom book, as I found the first one was better read in bits rather than all in one go.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I just finished The Wolf Den last night, it was really good and I'm about to start The Lord of the Rings as a buddy read with a friend. She has never read it before so I said I'd do it with her to give her more motivation to do it.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments I finished my second book The Shadow Sister this has been my favourite of the series, I was so impressed with both the strong, independent animal loving women from the past, and the quirky bookshop that allowed you to sit in front of a fire, reading and being given coffee from the current time, I could just read it all over again. 5*

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments Finished Into the Water by Paula Hawkins and Comforting Thoughts About Death That Have Nothing to Do with God by Greta Christina.

Started Educated by Tara Westover.

Jim | 21809 comments I've just finished the Cicero Trilogy by Robert Harris The Cicero Trilogy

Although to be fair I picked up the three books in charity shops before I started to read them :-)

I enjoyed it. Harris is a good writer, he seems to have a feel for the period and wrote a good story and still seems to have managed to stick pretty well to the history we know

A 2020 publication would probably show its age :-(
