I’ve been wondering lately where some Americans get their news. CNN appears to be a popular choice. Here’s Wolf Blitzer, from that channel, reporting on COP26 from Edinburgh:

Should Fox tell him it’s happening in Glasgow?
Hey, isn’t CNN one of those ‘fact checker’ outlets that calls out misinformation?

Have you seen CNN's ratings? The only ones watching are conservative outlets looking to laugh at them later.
As to where Americans are getting their news, the ratings don't like. The nightly news on the big 3 broadcast networks are the largest source. More people still watch NBC, CBS, and ABC than any other station. Fox News has the largest audience on cable. Lately, they've been beating MSNBC and CNN combined. In rare instances, they have drawn larger audiences than the broadcast networks, but that takes a must-see news event. MSNBC is the largest of the liberal cable networks, but their ratings have been steadily falling since Biden took office. Still, if I was an advertiser, I would go with MSNBC over CNN without hesitation.
J and JJ, this is all heartening news :) Thanks for sharing.
Do you know what? The more I hear from this Joe Rogan, the more I like him.

Joe Rogan is not a news caster.
Papaphilly wrote: "Joe Rogan is not a news caster."Did anyone say that he was a journalist? He's a podcaster who has long conversations with a wide variety of people. For the last three decades, Barbara Walters has been claiming that short interviews with famous people makes her a journalist.
Don Lemon and Chris Cuomo claim to be journalists. Do they deserve that recognition?
Papaphilly wrote: "Joe Rogan is not a news caster."
Further to J's point, I know he isn't. But he does a very good job at debunking some of the myths spread by news casters.

Barbara Walter was a renowned journalist before she became what she is now. Whether you or I like like her or not, she earned her bones and had the chops.
Joe Rogan is a pod caster and should be taken as seriously. As for Don Lemon and Chris Cuomo, they are idiots.
Thing is, journalists don't seem to be doing a very good job at holding other journalists and politicians to account. Thank God we have podcasters to do this, eh?
That's what I mean when I talk about the 'dominant narrative.'The dominant narrative is the one propagated by corporate media aligned with the elite, designated 'fact checkers,' pundits, etc, and the political and financial elites.
It's nothing more than propaganda designed to condition the wider population into compliance with the objectives of the people at the very top of society.

I was thinking today about how Biden was elected. He hid in his basement; the few press conferences he had were with carefully chosen media people who had no hard questions for him. He wasn't given the opportunity to make mistakes. They were only concerned with getting Trump out of office. Period. They weren't concerned with vetting Biden or with electing a competent president. So here we are. I blame the mainstream media for the mess we're in and for continuing to ignore issues that should be reported.
Scout wrote: "I was thinking today about how Biden was elected. He hid in his basement; the few press conferences he had were with carefully chosen media people who had no hard questions for him. He wasn't given..."Surprisingly for some I might agree. IMHO the last two US Presidential elections have given the US Electorate 4 candidates none of whom should be President. Trump v Clinton then Trump v Biden
The MSM hated Trump because he hated them even though with The Apprentice he was a partial product. Biden was an insider's insider.
The US system (and other countries) destroys other candidates during selection process because amazingly no human is perfect but media wants them to be - until they don't.
That's the difference between progressives and the classical liberals. The classical liberals admit that humanity is naturally flawed, therefore you need to use checks and balances. The progressives believe that the administrative state can perfect humanity.
Scout wrote: "I was thinking today about how Biden was elected. He hid in his basement; the few press conferences he had were with carefully chosen media people who had no hard questions for him. As long as the economy was soaring, all was good, but when the COVID hit, anger turned on him. He just could not keep his mouth shut. The election was not about Joe Biden, but about Donald Trump and his mouth.
There are two Trumps. There is the actual Trump who was surprisingly good for a used car salesman. Then there is the MSM Trump who is apparently conspiring with the Russians and the Klan to ban abortions and enslave or murder everyone who isn't a cis-gendered white male. I sometimes wonder how many MSMers I could lead completely off a cliff by spinning a tale of Trump being a Free Mason, then Illuminati, then reptilian shape shifter (like Liz Too).

"I had to destroy humanity to make humanity perfect."
"I'm going to perfect you even if it kills you."
"No amount of suffering is too much to achieve perfection."
"The perfect human is no longer human - and that is the point of perfection."
"Humanity is a disease and perfection is the cure."
"All imperfection will be cut out of humanity as cancer is cut out of the body."
"Our war on imperfection is a total war. How could it be anything else."
"To dissent from perfection is the mark of the imperfect."
"All imperfection will be cast out."
"The perfect are without sin, nor can they sin."
"We have made compassion, mercy and justice obsolete, for in our perfect world, there is no weakness that must be helped, nor are there sins to be forgiven or punished. All such imperfect forms have been eradicated."
"Perfection and purity go hand in hand."
"The mind must be purified before perfection can be achieved. Conformity with perfect thought enables perfection of mind, body, and society."
"To err is imperfect, and all error will be eliminated."
"For the perfect, there is nothing left to learn."
"Upon the first error, the imperfect will be corrected. Upon the second error, they shall be chastened. Upon the third error they shall be constrained. There shall be no fourth error allowed."
"Conformity with perfection is the pure path to perfection."
"The perfect adhere to conformity as the imperfect adhere to error and dissent."
"All those marked with the signs of error and dissent shall be shunned by the perfect."

He was in the middle of his first term in Congress when he ran, and he didn't have much of a resume before that.
As first lady, Hillary had an inside look at Washington politics, and how things are done. She served a complete term as a Senator, and she was Obama's Secretary of State in his first term. A surprising number of our presidents moved from the Secretary of State job into the presidency, so it wasn't a far-fetched transition for Clinton.

In terms of qualifications or experience yes, but she carried a lot of baggage and that fed into Trump's narrative. His own unsuitability got lost in the desperate need for the Republicans (And many Democrats) to not have Hilary. Just as Biden won to not have Trump again.
Papa said, "Trump did himself no favors. He was irritating to everyone. As long as the economy was soaring, all was good, but when the COVID hit, anger turned on him. He just could not keep his mouth shut. The election was not about Joe Biden, but about Donald Trump and his mouth."You're so right. People voted emotionally instead of logically. As much as I was irritated with Trump and didn't like him personally, I saw that he was an effective president and that Biden wouldn't be. I didn't vote for the man; I voted for who would be best for the country. I think what's going on now with Biden justifies my vote.
Concerning Hillary, what she let happen at the embassy in Benghazi was a dereliction of duty. Those people died because she didn't do her job, didn't respond to their pleas for help. I watched the entire hearing, and it was sickening the way she got angry and indignant at being questioned; how she said, "What difference at this point does it make?” about why she didn’t call the survivors of the attack in the hours or days immediately afterward, to ask whether the attack had begun as a spontaneous outburst of violence by Libyans upset about a controversial video or whether it was an orchestrated attack by a militant group. She didn't care. And if you think her party didn't understand what happened, then ask why she wasn't put up for presidential nomination against Trump in 2020, this woman who was supposedly robbed in the 2016 election.
Scout, my offshore interpretation of the Presidential election was that the election ended up with did you want Trump? I had no idea what Biden was going to be, other than he was not Trump. That was unfortunate because a reasonable Dem candidate should have waltzed in, except it appeared the Dem national congress was not interested in a reasonable candidate.
That's what voters here did - vote anti-Trump without looking at what Biden would do. Biden kept what he would do a secret, not giving interviews or answering questions. An effective strategy, but cowardly. Now we know who he is and that he's incompetent, which was hidden from us during the campaign. I think now, if you put the two side by side as far as competence, Trump would overwhelmingly win. What do you think?
Ian wrote: "From an outsider, at the risk of sounding like Dexter, I think you need fresh blood on both sides."The next Presidential election should provide that to the people.

I'm waiting to see what MSNBC and CNN report.
What do I think about the news reporting in the UK? It's asleep at the moment.
J., what have you seen on MSNBC and CNN? Do they report that the guy had an extensive rap sheet and shouldn't have been released from jail to commit this atrocity? Are they maybe saying that it's not okay to release criminals with this kind of record? I hope they are.

J, I am completely with you in calling out this perversion of our nations’ media. It’s one of the reasons why I have gone from someone who is grateful to be Western, slightly to the left of centre but relatively comfortable with the status quo to someone who is struggling to see how we can lecture Russia, China or anyone else about anything.
On the ‘accident’ or ‘crash’, I have no idea what happened, so am not going to point fingers at anyone. But I will say this…if there had been the remotest suspicion that the driver had been a right-wing Trumpette, instead of someone allegedly with radical BLM sympathies, it would have completely dominated our news bulletins ever since.
Politicians and their media puppets currently have one goal: divide and rule.

In a world were many determine what information is factual by its alignment with their ideology, a fact checking system is simply a check of ideological conformity.
