I reached 20%. It's in 2nd person POV? Not sure what to call the writing style. The theme is really unique at least to me, it's about Afghan refugees fleeing from Taliban rule to Australia. And some parts of the journey were in Indonesia too, so yeah I recalled reading some articles about refugees stranded here, or using Indonesia as stepping stone before they continued their journey with rickety boats to Australia in hellish condition.
It's a quick read and I think I only have fewer than two hours to finish it.
Finished this earlier than expected, it's a short one after all. From my review: It started out really strong. I loved the writing, it flows rather effortlessly. I think it is kind of dragging after the second half and would love more plot than internal musings but I appreciate the author for telling the story of Afghan refugees and their struggles. I noticed the many research and interviews she did to create this novel to give it a more accurate voice.
The parts in the refugee camps and when they had to deal with TPV (visa) were really sad. I can't imagine how I'd feel if I were to face with the same situation. We are so privileged!
Anyway, I hope even though I'm a doing a soliloquy here at least the book will get more exposure :D
I looked at this book and was a bit thrown by the beginning, which seemed a bit of an unusual/inaccessible writing style. Admittedly, I didn’t have a lot of bandwidth at the time I previewed it. Do you have thoughts on that point, for those of us who don’t tend to read many books written in non-traditional ways?

I really enjoyed the author's short story The Witch of Orion Waste and the Boy Knight published in The Best of Uncanny so I am looking forward to this full length work.
