I started reading this week and I'm loving it so far. It's really cute I'm enjoying all the side characters. I love reading Beth and Jens's emails. I love how it's not just a romance but it focuses a lot on Lincoln character growth

It was an easy listen and entertaining for me as well. I have read two of Rowell's books this month and I can honestly say that I liked this better than Fangirl.
I started and then stopped reading at 35% because it's one of the most problematic books I ever encountered.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*
The main problem is that I'm not straight, so this is not a book for me because it's stuff I tend to not romanticize. I'd find extremely creepy someone reading my messages and stalking me then saying he's fallen in love. Yeah, I'd date men, and yeah I mostly read m/f romance, but this one screams problematic.
I know it's the premise of the book that he read Jennifer and Beth's messages, but going to Beth's desk to see who she is and going through her stuff is such a stalkerish behavior.
Also, Lincoln's whole story is so unrealistic, like oh, he has MULTIPLE degrees, is a nerd, doesn't know what to do with his life, doesn't know how to talk to women, lives with his mom, is still in love with his girlfriend from high school, and doesn't have a personality, BUT Beth falls in love with him anyways because he's so cute and muscular and tall is so not it. Who would date such mess?
The use of the r slur by Eve is yikes too.
And then all the whining of Jennifer "I don't want to have a baby, but my husband does" and treating pregnancy like it's a disease you catch, like I get it, you don't want to have kids, but then why did you marry someone who wants them so badly? And Beth still hanging on to a boyfriend that wants no future with her, like ma'am why are you suffering for this man? There's other fish in the sea.
I wanted to read it because it's a Rainbow Rowell book, and it was interesting at times, but this was a miss for me, especially because it screams YA, not adult.
Bonus, that I just saw in one review, is this line: “I thought you stopped saying ‘r*******’ and ‘gay’ so that your kids wouldn’t pick it up.” Treating gay like a bad word screams homophobia to me, a member of the LGBTQ community.
And that's only until 35%. There's probably more in the rest of the book.

I completely understand where you are coming from. I appreciate sharing your real thoughts about the book. We all have different tastes and opinions about a book and this one is definitely on your dnf shelf.

Everyone reads at their own pace during a Buddy Read. Because participants can be at different parts of the book at different times, it is extremely important to mark spoilers so that the book is not ruined for someone who is not as far along as others!!!
Mark spoilers by placing {spoiler} before the text and {/spoiler} after the text but use the < and > instead of the { and }.
Happy Buddy Reading!
