Should the main editions of a series be in the same language?

Hi,

I tried to google about this but the results only informed me that either
only the author can change the main edition or it's automatically decided by the highest number of ratings.

In the book series linked above by a french author this has resulted in the main edition being interchangeably in french or english depending on which one had more ratings. Is there any kind of requirement for consistency in that regard or is it just left alone?

Shelvings (not ratings), but yes. There is therefore no such policy, because there would be no way to implement it. Librarians have no way to manually set an edition as the default for a work.
