Not everybody can listen to books on audio or has a commute to work, etc, to be able to do that and finish books quickly. I have an Auditory Processing Disorder and trying to listen to a book while looking at something else is pointless for me... I'd have to rewind what I missed! I really like the feel of the book in my hand and can focus on what I am reading better. I apologize for being a slow reader.

Same here!! I've done that with From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler too!!

Oh wow! I used to read Sweet Valley High too! I even had the board game!! I have no idea what attracted me to that series??

It should be there now!

Jenny | 2346 comments Ok, it seems like a consensus. Starting for March, we will enter books that we have started reading, or finished reading. I still think we should claim the color cards and Wild Draw 4 cards whenever. Those are harder to fill at the last minute.

This month, lets just let the chaos do what it does, and Rachael and I will make sure all of the books that work will be on the spreadsheet.

I love the fact that all of you are reading more than you thought you would. I signed up for 25 books a month, I think, and I have put maybe half that on the sheet as you all beat me to it!
We will have more than we need, which I think is just fine, as there are always more books to read.

Angela, I am sorry you don't get to enjoy the audiobooks, but I agree with you on the feel of holding a book. There is nothing like it. I read on Kindle for some books that I know I will never need to own, but the bulk of my reading is actual physical books. Of course, there are never enough bookshelves...

I also agree with claiming the colored cards and WD4's! We don't want to be scrambling at the end of the month to fill those. :)

Angela Snyder | 31 comments OMG so call me "Late to the Party" or the "lightbulb has finally lit up" LOL, but after much playing around, I have finally figured out how to link my books to the Spreadsheet utilizing Safari. I just recently switched to Safari cuz Chrome has been doing some weird things that are not happening on Safari.

I am not exactly a young'en and grew up with this stuff, however, I am not an old fogie who is completely out of sync. After much playing around between Google Spread, Safari and Goodreads, I have gotten that much figured out.

Now only if Goodreads could be a little more user friendly!! Does anyone else find it difficult to navigate and find things??

message 358: by Alla (new)

Alla (allaskarp) | 364 comments Our team was put together by how many books per month we thought we could read and some manage to read more and some less and next month it could be different.
Being a fast reader or a slow one doesn't matter, we are a team :D
I think we have a good team and I agree with the colored cards, better to have them out of the way and claim them soon.

I have been working from home full time now for months and I thought this is a great chance to sneakily listen to an audio book while I work.... Figured it wasn't working out when I managed to slip Hagrid into an email listening to Harry Potter

message 360: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments Regarding spreadsheet from March, happy to go with the group agreement :) Sorry have not been messaging, crazy busy at work this week! Finding it super hard to turn off working from home.

message 361: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments I have just noticed how many extra books there are at the bottom of the spreadsheet! Just in case I do run out of time and don't get a chance to complete Pandemonium as planned, I have removed this from the spreadsheet as there are other already read books that can take it's place :)

message 362: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments This team is rocking it so far!

message 363: by phez (new)

phez (phezweb) I’m going to read the lauren oliver delirium series as well! I can’t do audio books— my mind just drifts off, I have to keep rewinding, I can’t focus enough, and if I’m doing something else it’s impossible, can’t really handle it apparently. I used to listen to true crime podcasts in my car and that seemed possible, listed to Serial awhile back. 25 books a month?!?!? Oh man!! That’s amazing!

Rachael Hewison (rachhewison) | 459 comments Hi Phezweb, can you add the 'Read date' to Claim me please?

message 366: by Jenny (last edited Feb 21, 2021 03:56PM) (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Hey team!
We have about a week left in this round, and I am listing here the books that are not claimed yet, and the books claimed, but not yet finished. So, when you get a moment, check to see if you can fill in a needed book, or if you think you will finish all of your planned books please.
We do have extras, so we will be able to finish all of the cards no matter what, so well done so far.
(If I goofed on any of these, it is from staring at the spreadsheet and going cross-eyed).

Needed still-
Wild Draw 4 (can use 1 Red, 2 Blue, 6 Red, or 3 Red)
9 Yellow
Reverse
1

Claimed cards-
Jenny- That We May Live, The Color of Magic

Katie- The True Believer, Ready Player Two, There There

Amanda- Invisible Girl, How to Catch a Queen, The Glass Hotel

Dafna- Get a Life, Chloe Brown

Angela Sc- In the Garden of Spite, The Initiation

Dawn- The Death of Mrs. Westaway

Phezweb- The Dilemma, Something in the Water, Complete Me

Angela Sn- Sigh, Gone

Rachael- A Labor of Love

Nicole- Love after Love, All the Beautiful Lies

message 367: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 161 comments I’m claiming a Wild Draw 4 (2 Blue) as I’m reading Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim! I haven’t inputted it yet because I’m not home

message 368: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Woohoo!. I will put your name down on the sheet.

I´ve put in one reverse book

message 370: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments And again. Woohoo!

message 371: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I just remembered that I used one of the Wild Draw 4 cards for a 9 Yellow card, and I can switch that one to the actual 9 Yellow card and open up another Wild Draw 4. That might be easier, unless someone is sitting on a yellow books that works.

message 372: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments I have a 9 yellow I can read! It’s an Arc so it will force me to do so!

I am also reading the 2 books I still have down now and should be done by Wednesday.

I can’t put anything in the spreadsheet until tomorrow because I am traveling back from Knoxville.

message 373: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Cool! The Yellow 9 is yours. I will put your name on it. Thank you all!

message 374: by Angela (new)

Angela Snyder | 31 comments I am still reading Sigh, Gone.

message 375: by Dafna (new)

Dafna | 14 comments Checking in...I am still adjusting to a new position and have been too exhausted to read very much at night. Ugh. I don’t know if I’ll finish get a life Chloe brown this month so if you have something to replace that card you can remove it from me. Hopefully I can finish it for the March round if not this month.

My plan is to get all 3 done but if I can only get 2 done, Something in the Water won't be read this month. I can take it off now, that way just in case I don't get to it.

message 378: by phez (new)

phez (phezweb) There is a Book 8 slot open, since I took Something in the Water off. I know I'll finish Complete Me and The Dilemma.

I am on board with the plan to claim cards when you actually start reading or when you are done. Think that will be good.

Reading complete me now!

message 379: by phez (new)

phez (phezweb) I plan on reading a Red Book, Green Book and Grey/Black book next month too, the Delirium series by Lauren Oliver, so could get some color cards filled hopefully. Is Grey/Black even a color that is included?

Happy reading!

message 380: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments checking in :) on track to finish the Death of Mrs Westaway ! May be able to squeeze another one in

message 381: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments I am also the Delirium series at the moment, looking forward to your thoughts! Some reverse cards that can be used :)

message 382: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I read those a few years ago, and remember liking them, but not much about the plot. I imagine I will reread them some day.

Phez, no grey or black covers in the cards, alas. Only red, yellow, green and blue.

I hope we get some green cards in March too!

message 383: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments March cards are up on the March tab on the spreadsheet!

We have a lot of color cards and Wild Draw 4 cards, so feel free to grab those as you will.

Per the informal poll, other than those cards, try to fill in as you start books, or as you finish books please.

I am not going to police this, so if you want to fill in a few more, I am not going to yell at you. teehee

message 384: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 161 comments I’m totally taking one or two of the color cards! I have a question though. Would Legendborn by Tracy Deonn be considered a blue cover card or a red one?

message 385: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments Is there enough yellow on this cover? Float Plan by Trish Doller

message 386: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I don't think it is enough of either color. The goal is 50% or above to the eye.

message 387: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments So Wild draw 4 cards... this can be for any colour cards that month? Not just in that hand?

Feb Update: Completed The Death or Mrs Westaway- spreadsheet updated!

message 388: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 161 comments @Dawn It can be for any color card for that month! We just can’t use the same color card duplicated. Like if someone already use 7 Blue as a Wild Draw 4, we can’t do it again

message 389: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 161 comments Oh ok thank you! I thought it was more blue but I guess I’ll just use it for a regular card. Also, I know it’s up to the captains but Angela, that looks yellow to me!

Thank you! Rummaging for brightly coloured covers now :)

message 391: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments Blue Diary by Alice Hoffman

This would work for 0 Blue or one of the many Wild Draw 4s I think?

message 392: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 161 comments A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

Would this work for a yellow card?

message 393: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 161 comments Dawn wrote: "Blue Diary by Alice Hoffman

It would work for Blue regardless of the cover because there is blue in the title. But that looks like Blue to me!

message 394: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Angela, my answer above was about Legendborn, not the the sailboat one. I could be convinced of that being yellow, but a couple of more votes on it would help. There is a lot of white on the cover too.

The Hoffman book looks blue to me too.

No on the Monster Calls, I think.

message 395: by Alla (new)

Alla (allaskarp) | 364 comments Do you think this one would work for a red cover?
Call Me Irresistible (Wynette, Texas, #5) by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

It is pretty much 50% red. Lots of browns and oranges. But should work if 50%?

It says 60% red on tineye...wonder if that will pass...?
I´ll skip it.
I´ll use it then :)

message 398: by phez (new)

phez (phezweb) Yes 60% works!

message 399: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Oh yeah, that one is red alright.

Katie Rowen (ksnyds13) Checking in! I finished There There today and feel good about getting my others wrapped up this week. I'm glad that I'm not the only one that struggles with audiobooks! If I'm not doing a road trip, I just can't focus on them enough.
