Jenny | 2346 comments I keep running into challenge prompts for weird genre tags on books, so one day I am going to come up with reasons to shelve books under "vegetables" or "feathers" or "candle wax".
Or maybe I will just keep planning on doing it, but not really getting to it. That might be more likely.

I will admit that I totally did too! I am jealous of how organized you are!

Jenny | 2346 comments It is nice to have something to aspire to.
Alla, you are now our role model. The Gremlins salute you.

message 206: by Alla (new)

Alla (allaskarp) | 364 comments Hahahahaha...thanks ladies!
I must admit there are a few too many there and some come and go and some I use temporarily during a challenge, makes it easier to find specific books if I´ve put them in a shelv. Like for example books that start with an "O" or a special letter (mainly used for the Wheel-a-thon challenge).
But as I love challenges (helps me read books on my tbr list that I might forget about) I feel I need to be a bit organized and I like to be able to look back and see what books I read over a challenge, especially the long ones ;)

Jenny | 2346 comments Morning everyone. Well, it's morning for me anyway, and the coffee is fine.
Just a couple of house keeping things-

Please remember to check in on this thread at least once a week, (preferably a bit more often than that). Even if it is just a post to say "I'm still here", it helps me keep track of whether we still have everyone on board without having to send personal messages.

There are a couple of you that have not claimed any spots on the spreadsheet yet. That is fine, if you are waiting to finish books first. Just remember that if you don't find a card and an open spot that works, to list your book and how it fits at the bottom of the spreadsheet, and I will move things around. Or, post it here, with name, author, etc, and I will place it on the ss.

If any of you find that you don't have time to continue with Uno, please drop a note here, or message me (or the Uno Pixie) instead of just disappearing, as ghosting isn't fun.

We should have the first mini-challenge coming up next week, and though I have no idea what it will be, I hope we all get to have some great fun with it!

And I will bake something delicious for anyone who volunteers to go to work for me today, so I can stay home and read. Please?

message 210: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments How about you still bake me something delicious and I will stay at home and read for you today? :)

I am going to start a chunker of a book this weekend. In the Garden of Spite by Camilla Bruce . I am not sure how much I will get read today. My little pup woke up in the middle of the night sick so I am working off little sleep today.

I finished a romance early on in the week (can't get the cover to pull here).

I listened to the audio version of A Very Punchable Face by Colin Jost which was freaking hilarious. I listened to it in 2 days when it normally takes me about a month for an audio book.

I finished up The Project by Courtney Summers last night and I am left with so many questions still. The Project

I hope everyone had a great reading week and can find some cozy time to curl up with a book this weekend.

Jenny | 2346 comments I didn't know that Courtney Summers had a new book. I loved Sadie. Adding the new one to my list.

I would love to hear your thoughts if you read it. I am still over here picking my brain on how I felt about it.

Jenny | 2346 comments I am stopping at the bookstore tonight. I will see if they have it, and let you know. I h ave a feeling I will be walking out of there with too many books. Again. Oh well.

message 214: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 161 comments I’m sorry I’ve been swamped with so much schoolwork. The weekends are usually my free time to read so I hope to have something done by then!!

It's so hard not too! I just subscribed to two book subscriptions yesterday and I kind of kicked myself for "shopping" while in a meeting.

No worries. I just had too many people disappear in the past from challenges, so I want to make sure you guys are here, and hopefully having fun.

School must come first. Unless you are in a supervillain academy, and then you should totally skip classes.

I loved Sadie too. I listened to it on audio and it was truly amazingly well narrated, each character had their own narrator.

I read a physical copy and I can see how the audio version would be soooo much better. I need to go back and listen to it one of these days.

message 219: by phez (new)

phez (phezweb) I take college classes online too so I understand the struggle. I finished my first book early this morning, pretty decent, 4/5 stars. the only reason not 5 is because I would have preferred a different twist at the end maybe but a solid suspense YA novel, i'll probably look at the author's other works. I Killed Zoe Spanos- Kat Frick.

I loved it!!!! Colin Jost is freaking hilarious and I did not want to stop listening to him. There is only 1 serious chapter in the book so that means you are pretty much laughing non-stop. I definitely recommend the audio version! I can't wait for him to write more.

message 222: by Angela (new)

Angela Snyder | 31 comments OMG....I totally forgot that this had started. I had a hard time finding it on Goodreads. I just found the working Spreadsheet. I am a little confused with this game. I see many teammates who have read many books. Are we supposed to put the title of the book that we are going to start in the comments?? I usually go in after I finish a book to add it to my Reading Challenge/Uno shelves? Otherwise, there are a lot of speedy readers. I am not a fast reader.

I also did not see my Grisham book listed in the Spreadsheet either?

message 223: by Alla (new)

Alla (allaskarp) | 364 comments Don't worry Angela. When we sign up we are put down in teams by how many books we read and they try to even it down. But yes you need to put your books in the doc or ask someone to do it for you :)

message 224: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Angela, I would have tracked you down this weekend, but you beat me to it!!!!!

You can add book(s) to the spreadsheet directly, or enter them here, and I can put them in the spreadsheet for you. If you put the book here, you can wait until you are done, or, you can list what you plan to read. Either is fine. If you look at the spreadsheet, a lot of books are planned, but not too many are actually done yet. We are crazy, but not that crazy.

Ask any questions, even if you think they may have been asked before.

And welcome back to the Gremlins!

message 225: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Sorry Angela, which Grisham book were you referencing?

message 226: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Sue (misscimi) | 28 comments This site is so wonky today. Yikes.

message 227: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Yeah. GR is working to fix it. Searching for books is an interesting exercise right now.

message 228: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I should point out that none of you have gone insane, or forgotten how to spell simple words. The search function is ignoring a lot right now. The books you are looking for a real, and you can find them sometimes by looking under the author's name.
Or just wait until GR fixes things.

Or just sit there thinking about how you miss your mind, and reach for another glass of something lovely. Or chocolate.

message 229: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Sue (misscimi) | 28 comments Yeah I thought I was losing it for a second because I had the book in my hand that I wanted to mark as currently reading and goodreads was showing it didn’t exist and I’m like but it’s in my hand it exists!!!!

I am 100% reading that book. I also want to read Trevor Noah's book- Born a Crime. Any SNL actor I would read honestly.

message 232: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 161 comments Omg is that what is happening? I was trying to add new releases on my TBR and I was struggling to find them. I was thinking something happened with my phone or like you can’t add new releases or something. I’m glad it’s not just me

message 233: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments How is everyone doing?
Reading fun stuff? I just finished a couple of clunkers, and one fun one. Flyaway is worth trying if you like sideways fairy tales.

Housekeeping-
Angela (Sc), your The Project book is on your Uno shelf, but not marked as read.
Dawn, same issue with your Dark Tides.

Thank you!

message 234: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments I think that may be a GR error because I show it on my read shelf?

Go Bucs! 🤗

Might be worth checking your duplicate books. Sometimes when I complete a book on the app it adds a new version of the book to my Goodreads :P

Any ideas Jenny when we'll be getting information about the mini-challenge? Plotting my books for next week at the moment ^^

message 236: by Ilsen (new)

I'll go look again.

message 238: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I haven't heard about the mini yet, but we usually have a few days before it starts to get organized.

message 239: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Angela, it is on your read shelf, but it doesn't look like you rated it, so maybe that is why it is just listed as "added it". Who knows. I will mark it as done on the spreadsheet.

message 240: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments And, I just looked at Dawn's read shelf, and it is the same thing. So, I will mark that as done on the ss too. Weird doings on GR lately.

message 241: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments And, I just asked over in the captains' thread about the "read" shelf thing, and it is a GR bug that hasn't been addressed yet. So, I will be a little more observant when looking at your finished books instead of bugging you guys, Sorry about that.

message 242: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments Thanks for confirming! I finished the book with a G&T so glad it is GR being buggy rather than a consequence of my tipple ♡

message 243: by Dafna (new)

Dafna | 14 comments Just checking in that I am still here. Almost done with Man's search for meaning. have been wanting to read it for many years. Hope everyone is having a good start to their month.

Thanks Dafna! That book is one I have been meaning to read for years. Let me know what you think of it when you are done if you don't mind.

message 246: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Sue (misscimi) | 28 comments *peeks in*

Happy Monday! I hope GoodReads is in a better mood today.

How's everyone's reading going? I'm going to try to finish "I Owe You One" today.

message 247: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments Happy Monday!

How is I Owe You One? I have not read a book by her yet.

I didn't get a ton of reading finished over the weekend. I did start Dread Nation (Dread Nation, #1) by Justina Ireland and The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah which I am hoping to finish in the next few days.

message 248: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I finished a bunch of short ones, that I have not assigned cards to yet, so if you guys see my list at the bottom of the spreadsheet, just ignore it. I will use those if we need them to finish out the month, but I don't think we will need them.

I am starting The Space Between Worlds today, and rereading a Kathy Reichs book. Space and murder. I should be able to keep them separate in my head.

message 249: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Sue (misscimi) | 28 comments @Angela

I Owe You One is okay. Not her best work, but it's cute. How is The Four Winds? The plot sounds good. I haven't read any of her work.

message 250: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Phez, you have One of Us Is Next on the spreadsheet twice, so I am taking it off of the Wild Draw 4 card in hand eight.

The Wild Draw 4 gets to duplicate an Uno color card, but it has to be a different book, unless someone else is reading the same book, of course.
