Ilsen | 161 comments Oh damn! I didn’t know that! I have some people from my last year’s team in other teams and I might just go talk to them!

Yea I was confused because I didn’t think Tammi was on our team XD

Jenny | 2346 comments If you want to add a book to the spreadsheet, or are adding one that you have finished, and you can't find a card that it fits, just list it under Hand 15. There will be some Uno Tetris that happens towards the end of the month. I will make it fit somewhere.

Also, any book that you start after the game begins will work for March and April cards. So, if you don't finish something in time for February, don't worry, we can use it later.

message 153: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 161 comments I knew that going in! I just wish I left my book for the start of February but I am glad I am reading it!

message 154: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments I picked this book up today because I thought the cover was red. I just put it in the spreadsheet for a WD4 and now I am wondering if it is more orange. I told you guys that I somewhat color blind! Thoughts? The Lies That Bind by Emily Giffin

message 155: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments That looks pretty orange to me. Anyone else want to weigh in? I am also happy to take it to the other captains to get a final ruling.

message 156: by Ilsen (last edited Jan 30, 2021 08:07PM) (new)

Ilsen | 161 comments Yea it looks more orange than red! Also Angela, when you’re looking at the title, the article doesn’t count, so really the title of the book starts with an L, not a T.

message 157: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Ilsen, you can use the article, or not use it. So, the book would count for 2 (T), or L (if there was an L option).

message 158: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments Thank you both! I will remove it tomorrow from the SS.

message 159: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments You don't have to remove it, just move it to a non-color card!

message 160: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 161 comments Jenny wrote: "Ilsen, you can use the article, or not use it. So, the book would count for 2 (T), or L (if there was an L option)."

Oh oops sorry. I just always ignore it so I didn’t know we can use it. Thanks for the info!

message 161: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments No problem. We are all going to be Uno experts by the time the challenge starts.
Other teams will shudder in our wake.

Too much?

message 162: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments Nope I like the sound of that!

Finally finished my last book before the challenge begins! Now the tricky part of deciding which book to start with tomorrow...

message 163: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Right? I have my audio book chosen, but I am not sure which hardcover to grab. Decisions, decisions.

message 164: by Nicole B (new)

Nicole B | 119 comments I'm ready to go. finished my last book and just have to resist reading until tomorrow. I don't have time but since I've started reading again it's all I want to do lol. I'm starting with a Kindle book so I get reading at work during breaks and then I'll get to my paperbacks once I'm at home.

message 165: by Rachael (new)

Rachael Hewison (rachhewison) | 459 comments I'm frantically trying to get my current book finished so that I can start a new one tomorrow!

Angela | 655 comments Jenny wrote: "You don't have to remove it, just move it to a non-color card!"

Whelp, after I saw this message last night I went ahead and started it and already finished it today. :)

This one may work in the same WD4 slot. I think there is enough red? The Eighth Detective by Alex Pavesi

message 167: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments That one looks red to me.

message 168: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments 9 hours to go!!!!!!

message 169: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Happy Reading Everyone!!!!!!

We have officially begun! Well, we began about 4 hours ago, but I was asleep.

message 170: by Alla (new)

Alla (allaskarp) | 364 comments Good luck to you all and happy reading!!

message 171: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Sue (misscimi) | 28 comments Happy February!!! :)

message 172: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments Happy Feb everyone and may the reading be in our favour :)

Amanda Sue (misscimi) | 28 comments When I go to get my book link for the spreadsheet, it just says goodreads.com
Even on this thread, it's just saying goodreads.com
Anyone else have this? Or just me?

Anyways, The Yellow Wife isn't linked right now. I'll fix it when I can.

message 174: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Don't worry. I linked it for you.

message 175: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments You have to click on the goodreads.com window to reveal the url for the book in order to copy it.
No idea why it is hidden, but it is.

message 176: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments How was everyone's first day? Read 10 books already? None? Is your first book a goodie?

I read a short one this morning which was meh, and I will not recommend. I almost finished listening to Kidnapped, but I kept having to rewind due to interruptions. And, I am almost done with Remote Control. That one is very good. But, if you have not read Nnedi Okorafor yet, start with Binti.

Starting a longer book and a longer audio tomorrow.

message 177: by phez (new)

phez (phezweb) Started my book I Killed Zoe Spanish. It’s one of those that goes back and forth from present to past. I sometimes find it frustrating but in this book it’s necessary for the suspense and evolution of the crime’s events

message 178: by phez (new)

phez (phezweb) That was “Zoe Spanos”. It autocorrected ha

message 179: by Alla (last edited Feb 02, 2021 01:18AM) (new)

Alla (allaskarp) | 364 comments I listened to The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune yesterday and I loved it, I recommend it if you like fantasy/magic/ficiton :D
The audio version is so very well done too.

message 180: by Nicole B (new)

Nicole B | 119 comments I finished 'Into the Night Wood'. it was very good. I fully recommend if you like stories where magic could be true or false but it's never quite made clear. It very heavy with grief though.

Started Fatal Tree and maybe a third of the way though? I'm off today so hoping to get it finished with potentially Tyed.

message 181: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments so many recommendations! I'll be adding to my "want to read" faster than clearing the shelves :)

Half way through book 1 for me, about a 3 stars out of 5 so far.

message 182: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I loved In the Night Wood, and I just got the audio for Cerulean Sea, so I am thrilled that it is good.
I have a stack of books for uno by my door, and I am going to leave it to the last minute to decide which one I grab to take as my "read at work" book. I love getting through ones that I bought before and never read. It makes me feel all superior. Of course, I am an idiot, and an addict, and I have way too many books. If there is such a thing.

message 183: by Nicole B (new)

Nicole B | 119 comments Second day of reading hasn't gone nearly as well. I finished The Fatal Tree and Tyed and wouldn't recommend either lol.

The Fatal Tree is fine. I got it in a book subscription service and it will be going in my charity book pile. The story's pretty good but the author overused slang for me. One of the other reviewers said it was like the author wrote the book and then used the replace tool to change all of one word into the slang term for it and it's pretty spot on.

Tyed... err. Romance books can go either way and this was didn't click for me. The MC was annoying and overreacted to everything. Everyone in the book was beautiful. I just, no. Only 222pgs though so a quick read.

Still got a few hours of freedom so may start another book tonight but unlikely to finish it tonight. I got Cerulean Sea on kindle and tempted to read it soon. I'm really looking forward to it. I've heard so many good things. :)

message 184: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 161 comments I haven’t started anything yet... But I’m planning on reading More Happy Than Not as a buddy read and The Astonishing Color of After!

message 185: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Sue (misscimi) | 28 comments I have so many subscription box books I need to read. I think it might be time to cancel them for a bit because they are really stacking up. I wish I could read at work!

I need a really good historical fiction book in my life.

message 186: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I am not much from historical fiction, but, I loved loved loved Circe by Madeline Miller , The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller and an older one, but so good, Gates of Fire An Epic Novel of the Battle of Thermopylae by Steven Pressfield . Ok, I like Greek historical fiction.

message 187: by Nicole B (new)

Nicole B | 119 comments I love song of Achilles like soo soo much . I bullied a friend into reading it lol. (not literally, they were looking for recommendations). still need to read Circe. I'll have to add the other to the ever growing list of books to read :)

message 188: by Rachael (new)

Rachael Hewison (rachhewison) | 459 comments Which subscription boxes are you guys signed up to?

message 189: by Nicole B (new)

Nicole B | 119 comments I've got four, I think... I brought a ton at Christmas and while most I paid only for a month, some were recurring boxes. So A Box of Stories, Teatimestories, Bookish and Bert's Books. All UK boxes cause as much as some of the American ones looked cool paying double for postage isn't lol.

How about you?

message 190: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Alla, the two books you have finished do not have "read" dates on them yet. And, I still can't find your Uno shelf. Did you set one up?

Thank you!

I just remembered one more. If you like a dash of science fiction with your historical fiction, read The Just City (Thessaly, #1) by Jo Walton . Oh, and pretty much any Mary Renault book, like The Bull from the Sea (Theseus, #2) by Mary Renault .

Done suggesting for the moment. Maybe.

I haven't signed up for any yet but definitely tempted and wondered whether it was worth doing

Bookish is an independent bookshop so I like supporting them. A Box of Stories and Teatimestories have certainly delivered some titles I would never have read but it is very much up to luck so to what you get. Bert's Books it the most customizable service that I've found. I got a box from abominablebookclub today and while a little more expensive than the others, I liked the extras they put in. A Box of Stories was also super good at keeping me up to date with the shipping process.

Nicole B | 119 comments Today's reading went a bit better than yesterdays. No real recommendations but I enjoyed the books a lot more. I finished three, The Good, the Bad, and the Undead, Playing with Fire and Lover Undercover.

Playing with Fire is by the same author as Tyed and is miles better in my opinion. There was far more chemistry between the characters and while there was still a lot of melodrama it wasn't over petty stuff.

The Good, The Bad and the Undead is no 2 in the Hollows series and an OG in the world of paranormal books. It was fab, better than the first book to be honest. Given the author has written like 15 of the books I can only assume she hit her stride at some point. I brought both 1 and 2 from a charity store a few years back and now I need to wade through my bookshelves and see if I grabbed no 3 or if I'm going to have to buy it because I want to keep reading lol.

Lover Undercover, well. Its a smut book? Certainly more so than the books I normally go for. Loose story element to hook to people up together but the writing clicked with me so I enjoyed it. Read for one reason only: to refill a task in another challenge I'm doing.

Tomorrow's my last day off before I'm back at work for the weekend. Hows everyone else's books going?

message 195: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Almost done with three books, a reread (listen) of Persuasion. Definitely my favorite Austen book. The Harpy is disturbing and weird, and I like it. Hench is also fun. Kind of a good companion piece to the series The Boys. Superheroes are not all they are cracked up to be, etc.

message 196: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Alla, thank you for setting up your shelf!!!

And, I have hot water again! I love having to buy a new hot water heater. But, I like cold showers less. So...

message 197: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments Hoping the next 4 days will be good reading! Started Dark Tides, second in a series by Philippa Gregory about a woman trying to survive in a world frankly hostile to women- 17th century England!

Sorry about that, I thought I had already done it! But then I was tagging my first finished book I noticed it wasn´t there!

message 199: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Alla, I'm not sure you have enough shelves. You are missing "purple text on cover", "characters whose names begin with Dw", and "books I think I should read but really don't want to". teehee
