Jenny | 2346 comments We have two lovely Angelas here both with S starting your last name. I listed you as Angela Sn and Angela Sc on the dropdown menu on the spreadsheet. If you would prefer something else, let me know.

Nicole B | 119 comments Looking at the books I have physically to read (I'll do a deep dive my kindle books soon) I could read All the Beautiful Lies by Peter Swanson by Peter Swanson for Red 6

Dawn | 303 comments Added my bookmarks on my browser now! Makes me chuckle, to see Gremlins and Working Gremlins :)

By the way, I am also playing from the UK!

Dawn | 303 comments Do you all think this book may worth for yellow 9 card?

Good Me, Bad Me by Ali Land

Character surname Newmont for 9 but not sure if the cover is too gold rather than yellow?

message 55: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments If I remember right, I tried to use that for yellow a couple of years ago, and was told no, too gold. But, we are not using TinEye this year, so if the majority of the team thinks a cover is a certain color, we can go with it. Or I can take it to the captains group.
I would say no.

Wow... I just realized how dumb this question is when I reread it. Hahaha. Early morning brain was not working!!! Jenny, you should have said "Amanda.. really? It's book 2....." LOL

Cheers, that is good to know about TinEye too!

I never judge pre-coffee questions. I have had a few of my own. Laughing and pointing can be an entertaining thing sometimes!

message 60: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments I think last year they put out a rule that if you start a book the week before the challenge starts but do not finish it until February 1st, you can count it for February? Do you know if that's still the same?

message 61: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I'll double check when I get a moment, but I think that is a no.

message 62: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments OK. Only books started after the challenge starts will count. So, if you have books you plan to start, and have already put them under "currently reading" they will not count. Switch them back to want to read. Unless you have already started, of course.

The link to the countdown is here-
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
You can see when your city or country will begin.

message 63: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments So I spent too long today trying to remember what the cute little pre-gremlin was called in the movie. Now I have looked it up, and of course, it was a mogwai.
The 80's version of baby Yoda.

message 64: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Sue (misscimi) | 28 comments I remember a long while back when my parents got a Pekingnese dog and that was the most popular name for those dogs, Gizmo. We didn't name him that though.

message 65: by Katie (new)

Katie Rowen (ksnyds13) Helllo all! I am Katie from Kansas City, MO and I am so excited to meet everyone!

This is my first year playing and I am totally lost, but I hope to be a quick learner! Like Dawn, my TBR pile is stacking up in a big way so I should have plenty to contribute!

message 66: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Welcome Katie!
Don't worry, you will not be lost for long. You have a whole team of not-at-all-evil Gremlins to guide you through. This will be fun.

message 67: by Katie (new)

Katie Rowen (ksnyds13) I added this one in the sheet, but someone who has played before, please check me on if I've done it correctly!

The True Believer: Thoughts on the Nature of Mass Movements

message 68: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Looks perfect, Katie!
Looks like an interesting book too.

message 69: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments We can encourage each other to clear our shelves ! :)

message 70: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Do your books look at you funny too? Kind of like, "why thank you for buying me, but why don't you like me enough to give me some reading love?"

It might be just me...

message 71: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Has everyone had a chance to look at the spreadsheet and grab a card or several? Anything not working or unclear?

Are there ny calls for having a books read thread or is everyone comfortable using the spreadsheet?

Why is the sky blue? "Does chickens have lips?" What is the average air speed of a coconut laden swallow?

Just though I would keep the questions coming.

message 72: by Alla (new)

Alla (allaskarp) | 364 comments I'm beginning to look for books. Have one down so far, but there will be more coming ;)

message 73: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 161 comments I still have yet to make a TBR for February to claim any books. Also I would like to leave it blank until I complete it (except for the color cards) because I may not read it and I don’t want to mess anything up.

Also I might update it on the thread too just to keep it organized.

message 74: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments That's fine if you want to wait until you finish. Towards the end of the month though, if you are even sort of sure that you will finish a book, then think about claiming the spot on the spreadsheet, so no one else grabs it.
There is always last minute scrambling to add books and take books off the ss, so don't worry about causing confusion, or over promising.

And, you are organized enough to make a TBR list every month? Wow. Do you have enough free time to come over and organize my life too? Never hurts to ask. teehee

Jenny | 2346 comments Dawn wrote: "We can encourage each other to clear our shelves ! :)"

I love this idea. Cheering each other on is a good thing. I have started looking over your guys' read shelves to see if there are any books I may want to use for Reverse cards as well.

My read shelf is pretty big, but I have a couple of smaller shelves that I put my favorites on if any of you re looking for inspiration-
can-t-live-without
weird-and-wonderful-fiction
books-my-team-might-like

Do any of you have favorites shelves that are good for the rest of us to peruse? Please share!

message 76: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments Elastoe is on my tbr shelf for next month Jenny!

message 77: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments You will love it!

message 78: by Dafna (new)

Dafna | 14 comments Hi
Can someone tell me how to link the book on the list we are adding to? I saw that it says please link and I wasn't sure how to do that and what I am linking it to? Thanks!

message 79: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Sure. I have a Mac. so a PC might be different, but I don't think so.

Go to the GR page for the book you are wanting to link. Click on the bar at the top that says goodreads.com, and copy the url that is revealed. (Mac- command c).
On the spreadsheet, click on the box. you want, look for "insert" at the top of the page, click that, and find "insert link", click that. The top box is for the title of the book, and the bottom box is where you paste the link, (Mac- command v).

Or, the Mac shortcut to paste the URL you have copied is to click on the box you want, and then hit command k and then command v.

Tell me if this doesn't make sense.

Hahah my friend has a Pekingese dog called Gizmo!

Rachael Hewison (rachhewison) | 459 comments If a book is written by two authors and one of them fits a card can I use it?

message 82: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Rachael wrote: "If a book is written by two authors and one of them fits a card can I use it?"

As long as the author is listed on the GR page, then yes.

message 83: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Anyone else on this lovely team (American) football fans? Got your drinks and snacks ready for today's games?

Seven hours until my Green Bay Packers play! Fingers crossed.

message 84: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 161 comments Not a football fan or a sports fan really. The only sport I can watch is soccer because the rules are pretty simple!

I was just wondering do you think The Astonishing Color of After by Emily X.R. Pan can work for the red color card. I know it’s a gradient of red to purple so I just wanted to know what you thought.

message 85: by Alla (last edited Jan 24, 2021 12:07PM) (new)

Alla (allaskarp) | 364 comments I´m a sports fan...football (american), football (european) and handball. Love it all!

message 86: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Ilsen, I think the Astonishing book has too much white and purple.

Time to make myself a Bloody Mary, the game is starting.

message 87: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 161 comments Yea that’s what I thought. But it’s ok. I hope to read the book anyways. Thank you!!

My Bucs are playing your Packers! I have been in TN for 2 years but prior lived in FL for 30!

message 90: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Your Bucs are kicking my Packer's butts at the moment. Damn it!

I like the Bucs, but bloody hate Tom Brady. So, as long as he is there, I don't like your team. Sorry. Plus they are beating mine at the moment.

But my Bloody Marys sure taste good!

message 91: by Katie (new)

Katie Rowen (ksnyds13) Go Chiefs! And I have a favorites shelf as well: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

message 92: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I will be rooting for the Chiefs as well!

We agree on a bunch of your favorites. I might get around to reading Educated finally and use it for a Reverse card.

message 93: by Alla (new)

Alla (allaskarp) | 364 comments I´m a Brady fan (sorry Jenny!), but I do really like Mahones too, I think he´s great, so young and will only get better (if he can stay away from injury). So even if the Bucks lose, I´ll still be okay with the one that wins ;)

Tim Man and The Elegance of the Hedgehog are on my tbr shelf. I may have to pull these out for Reverse cards during the challenge. :)

That's Ok. Not everyone can have great taste. teehee
He is a good quarterback. He is also the poster boy for my rule to learn a little as possible about artists, authors, sports figures, actors, etc, whose work I admire, so I can enjoy their work without being distracted by their personal lives or beliefs. Some of it seeps into the zeitgeist and is unavoidable, but I try. I accidentally learned too much about Brady to like him.

I'm glad someone enjoyed the game yesterday!
