Angela | 655 comments Is there a difference in points between A4A and A4B?

message 702: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Dawn wrote: "For the spell it out questions- are the letters for the start of the title of the book? Or can it be the MC or author too?"

The same spell it out rules apply, so any of those.

Jenny | 2346 comments Angela wrote: "Is there a difference in points between A4A and A4B?"

Nope. Same number of points.

message 704: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Angela, I noticed you put down All Systems Red.
Woohoo!!!!
That is one of my favorites series. Have you read it before?

message 705: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments I have not. I have been on the fence about picking it up and then listened to a reviewer talk about it and decided that I need to. Finally.

message 706: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Murderbot is one of the best characters ever. Just saying.

message 707: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments So I have heard! You will definitely hear my thoughts this month. :)

message 708: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 161 comments Hi! Sorry I haven’t updated in a while. My dad went through surgery and I have been taking care of him. I haven’t been reading except for school but I should have another book done

message 709: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I hope your dad is doing well!!!!!
No worries about keeping up the reading. We all will do what we can, and sometimes real life is just more important.

Take care of yourself as well please.

message 710: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 161 comments My dad is definitely feeling better now. The surgery was last week. I’m still feeling a little down for other reasons (mostly having to do with the pandemic) so I haven’t felt like reading which sucks. Thank you for being so understanding though

message 711: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments I am sorry to hear that IIsen but I am glad that he is doing better now. I can understand how you are feeling as my dad had a few surgeries last year and it just wipes you out. Especially with the changing protocols due to the pandemic. The most important thing is to take care of yourself and your family. Let us know if you need anything!

Jenny | 2346 comments AND HERE WE GO!!!!!
The April mini is up, we are in the last two weeks of Uno, so lets end with a bang!

If you haven't checked out the tasks for the mini yet, the eye-bleeding-colored spreadsheet is where you want to go, and the April mini tab. Start claiming books.

In the captains' thread, there have been some titles bandied about that have things like leg warmers and headbands in them, so if we get stuck, I will list them here to see if anyone wants to grab a random title or two.

Have fun!

message 713: by Rachael (new)

Rachael Hewison (rachhewison) | 459 comments Just checking- for the mini challenge we have to pick whether to do A4a or A4b, which would everyone prefer to do?

message 714: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments It looks like someone grabbed a book from the second list, so let's just go with that one. My two cents, anyway.

message 715: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments Can you list those titles here? I can always see if the audio versions are available and I could listen at times when a book is just not possible.

message 716: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Here are the books that the captains have shared so far. Sorry I am not linking them, but I can if need be...

I found "Spandex" both in White Hot and Wildfire by Ilona Andrews.

Wildfire also has "boom box" in text.

Plus "shoulder pads" in One Fell Sweep

Neon: Sapphire Flames

Walkman/neon: Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch

Leg warmers: The Vintage Summer Wedding

I found walkman in Taking the Heat.

The Hero and the Hacktivist has leg warmers A LOT.

Getting Schooled has shoulder pads and headband

40-Love has headband

Royally Endowed has boom box

I just found Walkman in Horns. As a bonus it has a red cover.

found leg warmers on Dancer, Daughter, Traitor, Spy (Dukovskaya #1) by Elizabeth Kiem

Spandex in text and on cover in No Secrets in Spandex by Toni Jones

so far I've found neon in The Silent Patient, and walkman in Eleanor & Park.

message 717: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Hey team!!!
There are about two weeks left in this challenge.
We have a bunch of mini challenge books to read yet, and there are still some color cards not claimed. We need...

0 Red
6 Red
7 Green
4 Yellow
9 Blue
and 1 Wild Draw 4 that cannot be 9 yellow, 8 Blue, or 1 Red.

Check your books if you get a chance, and claim away!

The notifications are still wonky, but they are getting closer to being given in actual time, so it looks like they are at least improving.

message 718: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments Happy weekend all :)

I think I can squeeze in Siege and Storm (The Grisha, #2) by Leigh Bardugo for one of the blue colour cards (blue 9 or wild card 4 for blue 6)

Is it blue enough?

message 719: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I would call that blue enough. Cool.

message 720: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments I think I can fill one or two of those. I am leaving for the day but will check when I am back home tonight and can look through my shelves. And I just may be going to the bookstore today. :)

message 721: by Alla (new)

Alla (allaskarp) | 364 comments Happy weekend to you all!
I´ll see what I can find for some of it. There are a few I need to finish first, but I´ll have time I think for some of them.

message 722: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Going to the bookstore. As if. Who would do such a thing?

I think I found books for headband and boombox, but if you guys find something you want to read for those, go ahead.

message 723: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments Does this book have enough red? What Comes After by JoAnne Tompkins

message 724: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments I can take 6 red for the Henna Artist which also works for the mini.

message 725: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Angela wrote: "Does this book have enough red? What Comes After by JoAnne Tompkins"

I just bought that book, and it looks red enough to me!
Let me know if you like it if you get to it before I do please.

message 726: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Did any of you watch Gremlins? I am trying to think of a way to link a book to our movie, but I am ashamed to say that I did not watch it during Uno. Anyone?

message 727: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments I will. I was thinking of reading it for 0 red but I need to make sure I have enough time to finish the books I have listed. I may move some things around again. :) I have updated April and the mini to reflect my adds.

I did not watch Gremlins during the challenge. I am reading Sorcery of Thorns and was wondering if there was any way that the Grimoires could somehow be used? I am not the far along to be able to tell what they actually do in the story.

If anyone reads a book where there is "multiplying" of any kind I would think that could work.

message 728: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I was thinking that if I run into a character named Phoebe or Cates, that could work. Or if someone snacked after midnight. Or, damn it has been too long since I saw this movie, does throwing water on someone do something?
Phoenix throws water on Saaed. Sort of.

message 729: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments Since the film came out in 1984 we could also use a book with a 1984 copyright date.

Or a book where anyone receives a strange creature as a pet? I feel like this could be a lot of YA or MG fantasy books.

And yes, if they get wet that's how they multiply.

message 730: by Alla (new)

Alla (allaskarp) | 364 comments I'm reading one where one of the MC has a raven as a pet, a Raven he took out of one of his dreams and brought into real life...could that work?

message 731: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments The prompt says to be as creative as you like, so why not?

message 732: by Alla (new)

Alla (allaskarp) | 364 comments Well, it's something if nothing better or more exciting comes along, lets see what will come up.

message 733: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments We are almost done with this year's Uno.

I have found books for the remaining color covers, and it looks like we can fill out the rest of the unclaimed cards with the books at the bottom of the spreadsheet that have not been put in slots.
So, that leaves us the mini-challenge.

Can all of you check to see if you can grab any of the mini challenge tasks please?

Also, keep filling out the blank slots on the main page if you finish a book that fits. We don't need to use the ones at the bottom.

message 734: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments Do you have back up's for a 9 red or 6 red? If so, I can move those off to find books for the challenge.

message 735: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I don't know! I can check tonight though.

message 736: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Angela wrote: "Do you have back up's for a 9 red or 6 red? If so, I can move those off to find books for the challenge."

I can move The Cabinet of Curiosities (Pendergast, #3) by Douglas Preston to either 9 or 6 Red. Your book Ring Shout by P. Djèlí Clark seems red enough, but I don't remember character names. I can find another reverse if that one can be moved.

message 737: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments And, I just remembered that this book which I am reading is red enough, and will work for either. Another Time, Another Place (The Chronicles of St. Mary's, #12) by Jodi Taylor

message 738: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments If I can read well this week with the books pledged to finish so far, I'll be able to look more thoroughly at the mini challenge this weekend.

message 739: by phez (new)

phez (phezweb) I’ll look at mini challenge too, I might be able to sneak in another couple books too and claim some blank ones just not sure yet!

message 740: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments If you can move one over to my 9 red I can pick up One Fell Sweep for the shoulder pads prompt.

I may be able to pick up more but need to make it through 4 more books and should have a good idea by this weekend where I stand.

message 741: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Will do.

message 742: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Angela, what did you think about Murderbot?

message 743: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Sue (misscimi) | 28 comments I keep hearing about Murderbot.

Is it that good?

message 744: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments I enjoyed it! It's a really quick read as it's only about 149 pages. I think by the end of the series Murderbot may end up being one of my all time favorite characters. I am waiting on the rest of the series to arrive because obviously that cliffhanger of an ending........

message 745: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Amanda wrote: "I keep hearing about Murderbot.

Amanda, go to the bookstore right now. Do not wait.

Angela, after you finish the shorties, there is a whole novel to read!!!
And, there is another coming out soon.

Not that I like the books. At all.

message 746: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments What? How have I not heard of it!

message 747: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Hello team!
We have just a few days left, and with notifications still being a bugger, I am keeping my fingers crossed that you all read this message...

-Amanda, can you please put a read date on The Bone Maker?

-Seeds of Yesterday is on the mini twice, so we need to find a book for either "published in the 80s, or, last in a series. Go ahead and overwrite one of them if you have a book for it.

-we also need for the mini-
--leg warmers in text
--walkman in text
--cinema in text
--spell it out U
--a book that ties to our movie (Gremlins)

-The following people have books claimed, so can you double check that you plan to finish please...
--Amanda (1)
--AngelaSn (2)
--AngelaSc (4)
--Katie (2)
--Alla (2)
--Ilsen (1)
--Rachael (1)
--Phezweb (1)
--Dawn (3)
--Nicole (1)

I am going to add the books at the bottom of the spreadsheet to fill the missing cards later this weekend, so if you want to claim anything that is blank, now is the time.

Please look in your books for the mini challenge words. Let's end this challenge strong!!!!!

message 748: by Alla (last edited Apr 24, 2021 10:25AM) (new)

Alla (allaskarp) | 364 comments My pink cover book has legwarmers in it...might be easier to find another pink cover book than a book with legwarmers in it...?

I will finish both of mine that I have on the spreadsheets. What is the final date again?

message 749: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments It might be easier, yes. The end of Uno is April 30. I will try to find the countdown.

message 750: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments I am on target to finish all of the books on the spreadsheet. I will have a few finished by tomorrow hopefully.

I left my dang kindle in another car after my trip to Asheville yesterday so I need to go pick that up asap.
