Alla (allaskarp) | 364 comments It means we can start a book now and as long as we finish it when April hands has started, it can be used for April...I think :Þ

Alla (allaskarp) | 364 comments Yes! What Jenny said! (took me this whole time to write my reply on my phone while Jenny answered! lol!)

Angela | 655 comments What about this one? Every Last Fear by Alex Finlay

message 654: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Works for me. Light blue on dark blue.

Ilsen | 161 comments Is Tower Teams similar to Uno? I went to the page about but it’s very vague so I’m not sure what it’s about

message 657: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments I have never heard of it either!

message 658: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments It is similar only in that it is a team challenge.
Each year there is a different theme, and many different challenges related to that theme.
The Harry Potter themed TT had magic classes, spell it outs, a maze, and even Quidditch matches, which were insane. if you want to have an idea, on the NBRC main page, towards the bottom there are archived games, and you can look them over. Well worth it.
Uno turned me into a team challenge junkie, and then TT solidified the addiction.

Ilsen | 161 comments I’m debating it. There are other challenges in this group that interests me if they ever pop up again. But I don’t know about the Towers team because I’m not a big fan of the theme.

message 660: by phez (new)

phez (phezweb) Almost done with unhoneymooners, 100 pages left

message 661: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 161 comments So I’m going to start reading now because I have been caught up by other things but just letting you know, if I don’t finish, that there is a chance that you may need to replace mine. Sorry for being annoying!

message 662: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments No worries, Ilsen, I think there is one that will cover yours. Do you just want to wait until April for it?

I think I "may" sign up. The only challenge I have completed is UNO. I am a bit nervous about it I must admit. :)

message 664: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Nicole, I am reading a short leopard book, as it looks like you haven't finished your mini book yet. If you plan to finish in the next six hours, let me know soon, and I will not finish it until tomorrow.

AngelaSn, if you can't finish your 7 Blue, we have a book to cover, and Ilsen, same with your Wild Draw 4.
The only other one left is Phez and the Yellow card.

We are good.

message 665: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 161 comments Yea I think I’m going to save it for April. I don’t want to rush myself as I feel like I just want to relax today. It will be done right away for April though!

message 666: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Cool. I will rearrange things then.

message 667: by phez (new)

phez (phezweb) Finished earlier today so I made it! Good book super cute

message 668: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments We did it!

April has begun. Read read read!!!!!

message 669: by phez (new)

phez (phezweb) I read my last book in the same day, haven't done that in a long time, but I could not and would not put it down. Super cute and light. Which I love.

I snagged some color cards and a Wild Draw 4 and a Wild. I will read those 3 first of course. I hope to get 5-6 in this month, hopefully more like 6-7! I noticed the ones I have can work with many cards. I did a "Draw 2" with a "wild" and "1" card. That is fine right? Because the Wild was a duplicate of a card in the hand, and then the 1, so draw 2.

The colors were really filling up fast, on April 1st! So I just wanted to get some, but just let me know if you gotta switch. Holla!

message 670: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments So glad you enjoyed your book. It is always fun when you are transported like that.

I have to check on whether you can use the Wild to duplicate a Wild Draw 4. I honestly don't remember. If not, check to see if your book has a V (Red 7) character or an Z (Red 0) character, or an S (Red 6) character, as those red cards are still around.

No the Wild I was duplicating was a "1 Red" in the same hand. The Wild Draw 4 was in another hand and I duplicated "8 blue"

message 672: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Right, I do get it, I just can't remember if you can use a color card in a Draw 2. I wrote it wrong in the message above, sorry. I think you can, but I am checking just to be sure.

I was looking at the spreadsheet, and I had Wild Draw 4 on the brain.

message 673: by phez (new)

phez (phezweb) Oh I get it. Yeah no problem

message 674: by Alla (last edited Apr 03, 2021 08:25AM) (new)

Alla (allaskarp) | 364 comments I´ve managed to cover quite a few of the draw2 cards...if anyone has books that work for what I´ve covered so far and can´t use them for anything else, please feel free to move mine around. I just wanted to get this covered in time since my books fitted in there. I don´t want to be taking up any space that others might need to use.
Happy Easter to you all!

message 675: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments No problem Alla.
I plan to list a bunch of books at the bottom to cover cards if we need them. I have been reading a bunch of shorties for a different challenge, and I don't want to take all of the cards either.

Phez, I asked in the captains thread and the color card for a Wild in a Draw 2 is totally fine, but we shouldn't use that color card for a Wild Draw 4 later.
I hope that makes sense!

I hope the magical Easter bunny brings you all the chocolate of your dreams!

And, I hope you are all reading fun books!

message 676: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments Quite nervous about it but signed up for the Tower Teams challenge next month! Wondering if I should have waited to read my dragon themed series next month but the colour covers are too good to not use for UNO :D

Happy Easter everyone :)

message 677: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Do not be nervous! Whatever team you end up on will have veterans, and will walk you through anything you need. And, if you need anything, just PM me.
How can one put off reading about dragons. Ever.

message 678: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments awww thanks Jenny !! I am glad you also understand the dragon calling ;)

message 679: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Sue (misscimi) | 28 comments There's a Tower challenge??

message 680: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments It's coming up. It starts in May, but you can sign up for it now.

message 681: by Katie (new)

Katie Rowen (ksnyds13) Hi team! Sorry I've been MIA, my fiancé is in grad school and we took advantage of his spring break last week to get out of town for awhile! I'm feeling very fired up about my TBR pile this month and plan to crank through a bunch. I'll report back on the good ones!

message 682: by phez (new)

phez (phezweb) Okay think we are good then.

message 683: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Katie, I hope you had a good time!
Vacation. What a concept!

message 684: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Angela (Sn), you have a book on hand 3 of the April spreadsheet, but you for got to put the book title down.

How is everyone doing? I just read two dreadful books that I will not be recommending to anyone.
But, there are other goodies that I am reading that are making up for the icky.

message 685: by Alla (new)

Alla (allaskarp) | 364 comments All good over here. Thankfully been reading decent books lately. Finishing Coraline by Neil Gaiman.

message 686: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Sue (misscimi) | 28 comments Ohhhh.... What were the dreadful books?

message 687: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Evolution (Evolution Series Book 1) by Kelly Carrero and Party Games by Jon Athan . The first one was just annoyingly stupid. Trying to be Twilight without any of the charm, and "science" instead of vampires, and the second was like the movie "Funny Games", but the movie did it better. Sadly neither was so bad that they were funny. Just bad. Oh well, at least they were short.

message 688: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments If any of you want to join in on reading the Dark Tower Series as a buddy read, Angela and I are starting one up here...

message 689: by Dafna (new)

Dafna | 14 comments Hi There, sorry for not checking in sooner...I just finished Think again and added it to the spreadsheet. I'm working on Hamnet and Everything I never told you, and will look to see where those can best fit.

message 690: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Hi Dafna!
It has been quiet here of late, so don't feel bad.
The new mini-challenge will be announced soon, so hopefully we can end Uno with a bang!

message 691: by phez (new)

phez (phezweb) About to finish another book. My book club I do with a brew people— the next book is Braving the wilderness by Brené Brown. I’m not a big self help book person but I’ll give it a try I’m sure. Anyone read her?

message 692: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I'm allergic to self help books. Too many of them are such total crap.
I have known a couple of people that make a lot of money being life coaches, but I have yet to meet a person that benefitted in the long run from said coaching, or from reading self help.
Sorry that is so cynical, but quick fixes are all too much like fad diets.
Give me good prose, and a friend to bitch to about my life, and I am a happy girl.

Of course, I would like a maid and a chef, or if not, then I would like to enjoy cleaning, but, Oh well. The Queen is not likely to visit soon.
teehee

message 693: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments The April mini-challenge is up!!!!!

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I have added it to our spreadsheet. There are a lot of tasks to find books for, and a decision to be made about which set of books to go for at the bottom of the list. (You will understand when you look at the spreadsheet).

As for the other minis, books can work in both the main hand and the mini, or for just one.

I added an extra column to the sheet to list any other tasks your book can work for as well.

Start claiming your tasks!!!!!

And beware, the colors are a bit shocking.

message 694: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Oh, and remember, that books must be finished after the start of the mini, which is April 15th. So, if you are about to finish a book that works for a task, consider waiting for a couple of days to finish it!

If you guys have any questions, ask away.

Dafna, I can't wait to hear what you think of Hamnet! That one has been on my list for awhile.

message 696: by Katie (new)

Katie Rowen (ksnyds13) Also, this cover looks pretty neon in person, but I'm not sure if it looks too pastel in Goodreads Instructions for a Funeral Stories by David Means

message 697: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments If it is neon in person, go for it. Under the reason column, just note that it is pinker in real life.

message 698: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments oooo this mini looks fun :) I used to own a pair of black and silver sparkly leg warmers, not even ashamed.

message 699: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments For the spell it out questions- are the letters for the start of the title of the book? Or can it be the MC or author too?

I listened to the audio version of this book!
