message 458: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments that would be fun if a few of us read 'Who fears Death' - also means I can buy a copy and tell my partner it is for the good of the group challenge rather than another book for my collection tee hee

I'm also reading The Midnight Library in March as part of another book club! That's pretty much the only one that's decided for me. And I am hoping I'll finish Ready Player Two today but glad to hear there are backups if I don't quite get it wrapped up!

message 461: by Alla (new)

Alla (allaskarp) | 364 comments I might pick up the Midnight library too.

message 462: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Just about 9 hours to go. I will be asleep then, so please, if you don't plan to finish a book for this round, can you let me know?

We could do a buddy read for The Midnight Library too.
Let me know if any of you want to for that title, or for Who Fears Death. I usually do buddy reads over on the NBRC group, but we could do it here too.

message 463: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments I am trying to snag a copy of Who Fears Death from my library. I may not get it this week as I will be leaving town. When did you guys want to start it?

message 464: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments How about at some point during the next two month. Too vague?

I own a copy, so it makes no difference to me. I will defer to those who have library schedules to deal with.

message 465: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments Haha! Not too vague. I can also order a copy. I live in a small town so it’s not often I can walk in and just grab a book I am looking for. It’s honestly super annoying.

message 466: by Angela (new)

Angela Snyder | 31 comments Woo Hoo! I finished my book! Now onto Almost Midnight!

message 467: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Angela, do you get extra bonus brownie points if you start your next book at 11:59? Just asking.

message 468: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Angela, I marked your book on the spreadsheet.
Nicole, it looks like you took your unfinished book off the sheet, so I filled the space. If this is wrong, let me know please.
Alla, did you come up with a connection for the Governess Affair? If not, I can put in another book.

How is everyone else doing?

message 469: by Dafna (new)

Dafna | 14 comments Checking in...this month has been incredibly full for me because of a new job. I am hoping to read more in March and will check in with my books once I am closed to finished with them. Hope everyone has had a good February and enjoying your reading life.

message 470: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I hope your new job is fun.
Are you going to finish the book you have on the February spreadsheet?

message 471: by Dafna (new)

Dafna | 14 comments Hi Jenny,
Thanks. I am adjusting to it all.
I thought I had checked in that I didn't think I would finish one of the books get a life Chloe Brown and to remove it (I didn't finish it).
I marked the book I finished Man's search for meaning.
Hope that makes sense.
Dafna

I thought I already put it in...did it again just in case...or my spreadsheet isn´t updating itself...? Strange.. :/

Angela Snyder | 31 comments I don't know, do I??

message 475: by phez (new)

phez (phezweb) I as well will be starting a new job next week more likely. Kind of under bad circumstances. My brother's long-time girlfriend's father passed (he was only 50!) and she will be taking over his business and needs help and she reached out to me. I'm so excited to be involved in her father's legacy. He was a great guy, unfortunately had heart issues. Very tragic though, way too young. I'll be busier but I still plan on reading a lot!

message 476: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Wow, Phez. That is a lot to deal with. Firstly, I am so sorry for your loss. Please take care of yourself and your friend.
And, congrats and good luck on the new job. It sounds like you are are embarking on a new adventure. You are a good person to have your friend's back like that, and I applaud you. I hope you have a great deal of fun with it, and that your friend gives herself time to grieve before the pressure of taking over her dad's business.

Let me know if you need any moral support, I am happy to be a sounding board, or a safe place to whine.

Thank you so much! My brother has been her rock throughout this and her two brothers are also being very supportive and helpful. One of them is running their fathers 2nd business right now until all the legal stuff and things get wrapped up. I've definitely asked her to reach out if she needs too, she's a smart and tough young woman. My brother is lucky! He told me to not "f*** up the job" and I told him YOU better not because if he pissed her off, maybe she'll lash out at me! JK i think? ha.

It is exciting to be a part of this new journey and I'll be a core member in helping keeping this business alive. I've been desperate for a solid, full time job, and I couldn't be more thankful. Thank you so much for the kind words!

message 478: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments As a business owner myself, I know how much work goes onto keeping a place alive. I am thrilled that you get to be a part of that.

I think you have very right to threaten your brother, anytime you like. It is in the family contract somewhere, I am sure. I only have sisters, but we keep each other on our toes.

Jenny | 2346 comments Hey all! Just here to say happy Friday!!!!!

And, I am all excited because I have an appointment to get my Covid vaccine tomorrow! Well, the first one anyway. Woohoo!!!

I would love to say that I have read some brilliant books that you all must add to your lists, but alas, the ones I have read so far this month have been just fine. I did start one yesterday that has promise, so we will see.
Anyone reading great stuff?

message 482: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments Happy Friday too :)

congrats on your first vaccine, it is reassuring to see more and more people receiving it.

Just finished the Delirium series, really enjoyed on the whole but felt some of the character development and where it could have gone was a little off.

Jenny | 2346 comments Alla, Katie and AngelaSc, and Amanda, I moved some stuff around, as you filled out hands three and five without taking the Draw twos into account. So, you may see one of your books used as a draw 2, or you may see it on a different line. Nothing has disappeared, just moved a bit.

How did the vaccine go?

message 489: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments It went beautifully. No side effects, no soreness, no drama.
Plus the doctor was cute. Nice bonus.
Anyone eligible looking to get one, I do recommend trying to get an appointment at Walgreens. Seriously, I was able to get one in five minutes and avoid the long lines at the large stadium venues, and it was about a mile from my house. I was so glad that Arizona decreased the age limit to 55 and older. Hopefully it will be very soon that there are no more age restrictions. I want every one to get a vaccine so I can go to a movie with friends. Just saying.

message 490: by Alla (new)

Alla (allaskarp) | 364 comments I got sore in my arm after both my shots and some mild flu symptoms after my second one, other than that, it went well for me too. Just very glad to have had it already (I´m a radiologist) since I can get in close contact with infected patients, but thankfully here in Iceland we don´t need to worry much at the moment since we aren´t getting any new cases recently. I think at the moment we have less than 10 people in isolation and quarantine at the moment and hopefully we can keep it like that.

message 491: by Katie (new)

Katie Rowen (ksnyds13) Yay for more people getting the vaccine! I was a bit sick after the second but totally worth it.

message 492: by Angela (new)

Angela | 655 comments I apologize for my week long hiatus. I lost my cat on Monday, had to get through my birthday and then took a 4 day trip just getting back this afternoon.

I am going to work on my updates tonight.

And congrats to all of you who have received the vaccine! I will not be able to get mine until the last phase is called in TN. I cannot wait for the day that happens.

I hope you were able to enjoy your trip.

I am so sorry about your cat! That is a terrible loss, and it is losing a member of the family.

Losing a pet to me is losing a member of the family. I love my cats so much, it hurts and I'll never forget the pain of losing any of my precious babies.

Grieve the way you need to. Don't let anyone trivialize it. Thank you for your words of condolences about my friend's (brother's girlfriend) father. We had the funeral and a celebration of life yesterday. He was full of life and fun so he would have wanted a party.

Angela Snyder | 31 comments I am not really on a hiatus, I am still reading as I finished the Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater (geez, he was a very particular, detailed architect!). My Grandma passed away and other life things have been slowing me down. I am still trying to read Almost Midnight by Paul Doiron.

I have to say though with these nice days, I have been spending some time outside....so it is good thing this event ends @the end of April. My reading tends to be much slower when the weather is nice!!

message 498: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Hey all, the March mini challenge has been posted, and the tab is up on the spreadsheet. This one is much more involved, and will require some cooperation and communication.

Go take a look at it, and we can start to discuss how we will tackle it.

Ilsen | 161 comments So how do we guess the musicians and stuff? And how will we go about it. Also I’m not sure how much help I would be in considering I was born in 1999 so I don’t know much about the 80s

message 500: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments There are 15 sets of the trio-tasks so I guess we need to decide which trio sets we want to focus on first? The ones we maybe have some books in mind or guesses of the musicians come to mind looking at the clues?
