Searching for Sylvie Lee
question
Why does the author normalize cousin relations?

Two cousins are in love and the author makes it seem completely normal. The character has no issues with it until she realizes the truth. Shouldn’t growing up with your cousin as siblings gross enough to be in love? I think this is what confused me most. Is this more common in Netherlands? Cousins being together.

I think in most parts of the world, cousins marrying is somewhat common. For example in my mother's family we have a set of cousins that are married. I enjoyed the book very much. I thought it interesting the cultural differences between Sylvie's asian family and living in the Netherlands.
