SOLVED. Picture book with monsters and a forest [s]

This is a picture book (on the long side) that I was read to in second or third grade. All I remember is it was about this boy who lived in a house near the bad forest. His mother always told him not to go to the forest, because bad monsters lived there. But his devil told him to go there, so one day he went to the forest. He was chased by monsters, so he climbed a tree, where he found this little city of mini people. They lived up there because the monsters couldn't climb trees. If the boy went down the tree, the monsters would get him. But he couldn't stay up there forever. That's all I remember. Any ideas?

Yes, this is The Minpins, by Roald Dahl. I just read it to my daughter a few months ago -- it is a magical book, isn't it?
