Details for the March mini challenge have been announced!
We Just Wanna Have Fun! March Mini Challenge
This is an optional mini challenge for our UNO players. Get your fancy, garish disco gear and dancing shoes on and sing along to some of the 80s greatest hits with us while you are reading!
The tasks will help you get into the groove as you are readying yourselves for your extravagant disco night out.
They come in threes and each task-trio also provides clues to a famous musician/band & 1 of their songs (and in some cases the official videoclips).
Complete the tasks and try to guess the name of the musician/band + song for extra points.
◈ Every book read, i.e. every task completed, is worth 10 points.
◈ If you complete all tasks, your team will receive 30 bonus points.
◈ You get 3 bonus points/musician-band, if your guess is correct. (max 45 points)
◈ You get 2 bonus points/song if your guess is correct. (max 30 points)
In case you are not certain about your guesses, you have 1 chance to correct them. Just message UNO Pixie with your band/song list and we'll let you know which of your guesses are incorrect.
(Note from Kaley: We will get the list together as a team, and then I will message UNO Pixie for us.)
If you want to use this option, please send your 1st guess-list 4 days before the challenge ends at the latest (27 March). Once you have the reply, you need to adjust your list by the end of the challenge.
For the books, the usual UNO rules applies.
◈ Books can be started at any point since the start of the UNO challenge (Feb 1)
◈ Books need to be finished after the start of this mini challenge on March 14, 9am UTC (countdown is here) and before April 1 at 9am UTC (when the April UNO month begins).
◈ Books used for this mini challenge do not need to be separate books for what you are claiming for your UNO hands
◈ The usual book length rules apply
◈ Team spreadsheets will be updated with a mini challenge tab so that you can track your books and claim your points
Task Trios (Note from Kaley: For clarification, the only reason these are segmented as trios is because they are clues to popular 80s songs/videos. They can be read for by different people, and only one task per book.)
1. Read a book with a crown on the cover/the word "crown" in the title or in the series title
2. Read a book where a character is a sorcerer(ess)/wizard/witch
3. Read a book where a character is a god / with MPG or top shelf "Mythology"
4. Read a book where a character is involved with a criminal organisation
5. Read a book where the MC has more than 3 siblings/ a book that's #5 in a series
6. Read a book with a white suit or white hat on the cover

21. Read a book where the MC is a doctor/nurse

I was born just outside the 80s but I do love 80s music so I'm hoping that helps eventually.
Answers to your questions:
1. Yes, each task can only be claimed once.
2. The tasks are the clues. So we already have the clues. But we do not have to finish the tasks to guess. So if we can figure out what the song/artist is, we can guess even if we can't finish the tasks.
3. If you know something fits more than one, you can list all of them in case I need to move them around! I'm thinking we might need to try to claim some of the more specific ones though.
4. Yes, I believe 15 is correct.
5. We all have the same task list of clues, yes.
6. Yes, depending on your time zone! We are just under 43 hours from the start at the time of this post. Countdown.

One of my color cards actually has a pink dress on the cover, so I'm already planning to read something that'll fit that.

Oddly enough the Jim Jones book I’m reading is MPG Religion. I didn’t think I’d get to use it this round.
I was in middle and high school through the 80s so this is totally my jam! I can already guess almost all of the songs... LOL

Is it more USA based music , during the 80's i was into electronic/synth/ new romantic during early 80's then into all the goth stuff ..not much into pop
The only ones I'm fairly certain about are the ones that correspond to 4-6, 16-18 (only because they hinted in the captains group that this one is allllll about the music video), and 37-39. I'm glad you're figuring them out Gwen!

I’m trying to figure out the logistics of it all.Per the rules:
Teams communicate through the allocated team threads. No secret groups or using other platforms
So I’m not sure we’d be allowed to create a spreadsheet for guesses, because it’d have to be publicly accessible.
I’m wondering if having each person message me their guesses would be allowable, since it wouldn’t be team all communicating but rather me talking to everyone one-on-one, but I’m not sure. We might just have to post them here with the knowledge other teams could see them. Maybe we could post here and then I could keep track and we could edit comments once we know if guesses are right? Let me think on it for a bit.
Hi guys -- I am back from the cottage, so will be posting 9 books soon. This challenge looks so fun! Janeylou you are correct in that that music is totally my era!!! Love the music. I will have a good look and see if I can come up with guesses for the songs, but will wait until Kaley tells us how to communicate these.
Kaley, do you want us to start picking we want to read for, rather than going with the flow.It may be easier to get at least half of them sorted out the way??
