Most Important Things to Remember
* Only books started after the challenge started can count for cards. Link to the countdown is located above.
* All finished books must be marked as read and must be on your UNO shelf.
* When you finish a book, please post in the thread and make note of as many options as possible so we can switch the book around if necessary.
* Coloured covers need to be at least 50% of a colour. If you're unsure, please ask in the thread and the team will weigh in. If still unsure, then captains can take the question to the captains' group to get a final decision.
* Have fun!! It's a social challenge, so can get chatty. And while we do want points and want to finish all our cards, this isn't supposed to be a competitive challenge. So enjoy your reading!

Hello team and welcome to UNO 2020! I'm your captain Allison Ann - but I prefer Allison or Al. This is my sixth time playing UNO and it is such a fun challenge, I hope you all love it too. When you get a chance, please check in here and tell us a little about yourself, let us know if you've played UNO before and post a link to your UNO shelf. Thanks.
I live in NW Ontario, Canada where there are more lakes, deer and rocks than people. I work in tourism. I read almost everything, though mystery, fantasy, sci-fi and thrillers are my favourites.
I am not a movie watcher and I really hate cartoons, so I've never seen Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Nor do I have any desire to. Plus it is a long title to type. :( I might just call us Team Roger for short.
Once Nikk has reserved a few spots, we'll open up the thread for introductions and planning. So love UNO. Looking forward to getting to know you all.
Afternoon team. Not sure how many of you are Americans who might be watching the inauguration, but I hope someone will show up to chat with me soon. Looks like 5 of you are new to UNO. Feel free to ask any questions you might have. It's really an easy concept but it can look challenging until you start. But honestly, you just read books and keep track of some names while you do. :D Easy peasy. I'm doing laundry and baking bread this afternoon. Snow and high winds outside right now so indoors is best. What are you all doing today?
Hey guys! I'm Lindsay, I'm from Australia. So time zones might be a little different, hence why the later replies. This is my first time playing UNO. Super excited and can't wait to read more books and chat :)
Hi Lindsay. Welcome to UNO! It's such a fun game, I'm sure you will love it. Nikk is in Australia too, so you may be on the same schedule. What was your local time when you posted? I'd like to try and keep people straight as we have Australians, Europeans, Asians and North Americans. :D Lots of time zones. For a getting to know you question, what is everyone reading right now? I tend to read several books at once and right now it's
and
. Easier to keep track when the books aren't too similar.
Allison Ann wrote: "Hi Lindsay. Welcome to UNO! It's such a fun game, I'm sure you will love it. Nikk is in Australia too, so you may be on the same schedule. What was your local time when you posted? I'd like to try ..."It was around 12pm when I posted that post.
Also currently I'm reading An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green. I'm not usually the one to read multiple books at once, cause I can't keep up. I wish I could though!
HI all,Nikk here. Co-Captain.
This is my 5th or 6th year playing Uno and I love it. I can't wait to start again this year.
As Allison mentioned I am in Australia, in Sydney.
I read mostly paranormal/paranormal romance, urban fantasy, mysteries, thrillers and pretty much anything else that takes my family though i tend to read paranormal mostly lately. I also listen to a lot of audio books.
To be honest, I haven't read that much in the last couple of weeks as I am slowly making my way through the Vampire Diaries LOL I am currently about halfway through season 5 but i should be done by the time UNO starts :-P
I am also putting together a tracking spreadsheet which should be ready shortly then I will pop up in one of the reserved messages above
Can't wait to meet the rest of you and start chatting. Looking forward to a great Uno game :-)
I have popped a link to the tracking spreadsheet in message 14. You will need to request access to edit. send me a pm with your email if i cant easily match it to your user name
Thanks for the tracking spreadsheet Nikk. I was going to adapt an old one, but I kept forgetting to do so. :D
Hi! I am Anubha, am from India, Asia. This is my 2nd time playing Uno. I like how this challenge makes me connect with new people across the globe and also gives a much needed boost to my reading. I love reading fantasy novels, I am trying to read best 200 fantasy books of all times since last year. This year am focussing on more middle grade and mystery/thriller. So far January has been a good reading month for me.
I am currently reading Hollowpox, 3rd book in the Morrigan Crow series and it's absolutely magical and fascinating so far. I love it!
Also am currently watching season 3 of Dark. Each episode is mind bogglingly better than the other!
Looking forward to having great 3 months ahead! Happy reading !!
Hi Anubha and welcome. How cool to be reading all the fantasy books. I like fantasy, but I definitely go in spurts, and right now I'm off fantasy. When you get a chance, could you please take a look at your UNO shelf? You have a bunch of books on there. You either need a new shelf or you can clean out the books finished before the challenge starts. Thanks very much.
If you'd like to start planning books for February, here are our cover colours for the first month. My UNO strategy is simple. Plan the coloured covers before we start, fill in the Draw 2 cards first and then add the others as we read. 6 Red
4 Yellow
1 Green
1 Green
3 Green
4 Blue
8 Blue
9 Blue
Plus 5 Wild Draw 4s (duplicate 5 of the colours).
Hi. I'm Jane, I from Denmark - The very south just 10 km. north of the German border. Time now is 9.45ish PM so I guess 6 hours ahead of Ontario.I have played Uno before but last time was in 2018. I've been in a reading slump for a long time and I'm trying to get out of it by taking part in challenges again.
I read mostly romance, paranormal and urban fantasy but right now I've just started a zombie book! I've got the newest Ilona Andrews book Blood Heir that I'm looking forward to reading.
I'm quite jealous of you Allison. I've been to Canada 3 times for canoing. Once to Algonquin Park and twice to Yukon River starting in Whitehouse. We do have lakes in Denmark but they are quite small compared to the Canadian ones. Next time we go wil most likely be to Algonquin again as it is cheeper that Yukon.
I'm quite sure my profilpicture is from our last trip to Yukon in 2016
Hi, I'm Jessamine and this is my fifth time playing UNO! I live in Guatemala and it's currently 9:00 pm here. I mostly read Fantasy and Romance, but I like all genres. I'm currently reading Charming as a Verb and The Dark Side series.I have two books that work for 8 Blue:
&
Welcome Jane. Glad you're coming back to UNO and I hope it helps to jumpstart your reading. Canada does have all the water :D great for canoeing. I live on Lake of the Woods, over 4000 kms of water surface. I'm very spoiled. Enjoy your zombies.
Hi and welcome Jessamine. Lots of UNO veterans. :D Lots of fantasy readers. Hope that helps you all with the many Reverse cards we have for February. Both of those books look great for 8 Blue, if you can read one or both that will be great.
Lindsay wrote: "I have two books that work for 9 Blue:Thorn & A Man Called Ove"
Thanks Lindsay, I think we need a team vote.
looks green to me, but I sometimes have trouble with blue/green. Is there an N character in the book?
looks blue though, so that is definitely a possibility. :D
Allison Ann wrote: "Hi Anubha and welcome. How cool to be reading all the fantasy books. I like fantasy, but I definitely go in spurts, and right now I'm off fantasy. When you get a chance, could you please take a l..."
Oh yes, I read those 60 during the last Uno challenge, I'll reshelve them, on it!
And I know usually I read all genres in between fantasy books to avoid reading slump myself. But mostly I read in the morning these days, so I try to read something am excited about so as to wake up and steer clear of procrastination. :)
Hello!I'm Celia from Oregon, USA. April is my mom. This is my first time playing UNO. I'm coming up on my one-year anniversary for joining my first ever book challenge game which was Turf Wars in another Goodreads book club. So I'm still quite a newbie, but turning into a real challenge junkie ;)
I love how many different countries we have represented on our team! I have been to Guatemala, Jessamine. What area do you live in? My favorite place was Lake Atitlan. We went on a trail ride through a coffee plantation there and got caught out in a massive downpour that filled the irrigation ditches our horses were walking in. The water was up to our thighs while we were riding! It might sound awful, but it was actually so fun lol
I have been to Canada too because my sisters and I used to compete in Scottish highland dancing which is pretty popular there. However, I've never gotten as far east as Ontario, Allison. I'd really like to explore more of Canada someday. The wilderness and small towns both appeal to me :)
I have never been to Australia, Denmark, or India, but they are all on my list!
Which of our teammates' countries have you all been to?
I also love fantasy, but have been taking a little break. My other favorites are sci-fi, history, historical fiction, classics, apocalyptic/dystopian, and suspense. Which zombie book are you reading, Jane? I can go for a good undead read too :)
Right now I'm winding down Les Misérables before UNO starts. What a tome. I highly recommend the translation by Christine Donougher though, if you don't read French of course. I'm also reading Rules of Civility and Heidi, so I'm in a very classic phase for the moment lol
That cover is such a green-blue! TinEye says it's ~52% blue though, if we want to go by that: https://labs.tineye.com/color/292c7c0...
Looking forward to playing with you all!
Celia wrote: "Which zombie book are you reading, Jane? I can go for a good undead read too :)."Hmm, I'm just starting so I'm not yet sure if it is good or not!
First Light by Kody Boye
I'm reading it as I need it for another couple of challenges!
I guess I've travelled a lot. I'm Danish but have lived in both Scotland and Greenland though I'm now back home.As mentioned I been to Canada and one of the times took me to Alaska via the Yukon river - the furthest south I got was Seattle.
Not been to India, Guatemala or Australia
I'm quite behind in my reading for January so I'll not be looking at February books before Sunday 31st.

Thanks Anubha. All our shelves are linked up now. We just need April to check in and we'll be ready to start reading February 1st.

Hello Celia and welcome. How great that you and your mom are trying this game out together. I get my love of reading from both my parents, but although mum and I can talk books, she'd never in a million years join an online forum. :D Your trip to Guatemala sounds awesome too.
I used to travel a fair bit, but I haven't been to Australia or India. Been to many places in North, Central and South America and Europe, but none of the places my teammates live. :D Quite a coincidence.
Jane wrote: "I'm quite behind in my reading for January so I'll not be looking at February books before Sunday 31st."No problem, just keep track once you do start reading. :D
Any questions about the challenge while we are waiting to start? Is everyone comfortable adding their books to our Tracking Sheet or would you rather post the information here. I don't mind entering books for you if you are anti-spreadsheet. :D Any other votes for
. Tineye isn't being used as validation anymore, so it's just what we think. Blue or green?
Celia wrote: "I have been to Guatemala, Jessamine. What area do you live in? My favorite place was Lake Atitlan."I live in Guatemala City. I just recently moved, so I haven't had a chance to go to Atitlan yet, but I really want to go. I've seen some photos and it looks beautiful. I've been to Canada and the U.S. Lived in Minneapolis for four years while I was in university. I've never been to Australia, Denmark, or India, but would love to go one day.
Allison Ann wrote: "Blue or green?"
I think maybe green? I'm also having a little trouble deciding between blue and green for this one haha.
I'm okay adding books to the spreadsheet

I spent a few days in Guatemala City. It was interesting. If it's not too nosey, do you mind my asking what takes you there?
