Carolyn | 9837 comments I feel sorry for all those who've had to cancel school holiday plans. Such bad timing, but better to stay safe at home and not spread it.

Leonie (leonierogers) | 3567 comments Stay safe, Sydney-siders! Thinking of you all!

Theoretically, I'm meant to be in Sydney for a course on the 10th of July. Not looking good right now.

I'm dreading the spread of it - it's flying through Sydney-siders - I hope it's able to be stopped before it heads into NSW country. It only takes one...

message 356: by Helen (new)

Helen (helen57) | 3411 comments It is spreading fast and hopefully it will stay down here and everyone will do the right thing

It's hard to believe this episode was started by one person who didn't do the right thing Helen :(

message 358: by Helen (new)

Helen (helen57) | 3411 comments I know they are investigating him and the company he works for, but the damage has been done sadly we can only keep our fingers crossed

Dale Harcombe | 6879 comments Really shows how one person’s actions can impact so many other people.

Diana (secondhandrose) | 73 comments Thinking of everyone in Sydney. I had planned to go to Sydney for the school holidays but about a month ago I felt things were still unstable (mostly here in Victoria) so I didn’t book. My sister in Sydney is in a red zone so I made the right decision.
On a happier note - my street library should be installed tomorrow. After that I’m having a mural artist paint it. Once it’s done I’ll post a photo.

Congrats on the street library - I’ve been meaning to ask if it was open yet. I’ve got a stack of books to help stock it, if you need help. Just sing out.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Down here in the Illawarra, we're all doing the mask and distance thing and keeping out fingers crossed that we'll avoid a hard lockdown.
Hubby and I are meant to go to an anniversary party in Redfern on the 18th: not looking good...

No definitely not Marianne! It wouldn't surprise me to see a lockdown in Sydney in the near future!

message 366: by Mari (new)

Mari | 508 comments You called it Brenda.
Four LGAs will go into a week long lockdown from midnight. I’m in one of them but I have lots of books, coffee and snacks so I’m alright.
Keep safe my fellow Sydneysiders.

message 368: by Em__Jay (new)

Em__Jay | 500 comments I raced to my library late this afternoon to pick up my book reservations.
I passed a group of 4-5 kids coming out of the library with each of them carrying a pile of at least a dozen books each.
Then, looking at other people in the library, most had a pile of books in their arms.
The New Release shelves reminded me of a supermarket stripped of toilet paper ... pretty much empty. :-)

That is ridiculous. Almost worse than toilet paper. How many books does an average person read in one week? And don't they have any devices to read on??? People are weird sometimes.

Carolyn | 9837 comments We're not in the lock down area, but my husband and son work there so we're effectively locked down, especially as my son will still need to go to work.
I did my grocery shopping yesterday and was pleased to see everyone wearing masks, except for one guy. He was offered one as he went into the supermarket but waved it away, showing them he had one in his hand. I guess he doesn't know how they work.

Well, that might be true: I do see a lot of people with the mask BELOW their nose.

I wish they would invent something to stop my glasses sliding off my nose when I have my mask on.

Or your glasses fogging up all the time!

message 375: by Phrynne, Series Queen! (new)

Phrynne | 15797 comments Mod
They don't fog if you pull the mask up high and overlap your glasses onto the mask. But then they slide down it:(

I'm just hearing that the Greater Sydney, Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Wollongong and Shellharbour areas. Plus the Hunter now is mandatory to wear masks indoors... all from 6pm this evening. I hope this manages to stop this run in its tracks!

message 378: by Helen (new)

Helen (helen57) | 3411 comments Yes I think it is the right thing to do this time, this Delta strain moves way to fast and I am happy to stay at home and safe thinking of everyone please stay safe and enjoy some more reading if you can

message 380: by Helen (new)

Helen (helen57) | 3411 comments I was hoping we wouldn't as well, but here we are again hopefully this will be the last one fingers crossed. We were supposed to be coming up your way tomorrow for Hubby's birthday one of my daughters lives a Cliftleigh not now we will have to wait :(

Oh bad luck Helen! That's the sort of visit people who don't particularly care would do, saying it's only family, they won't have it! Or something..

Trish (trishr) | 1109 comments Stay safe everyone, sadly all of Greater Sydney in lockdown til 9th July. A year down the track, I am sure we were all really hoping this wouldn't be happening again. I hope no one has had major holiday plans spoilt.

Had AZ number two on Wednesday, to join the 5% of fully vaccinated Australians. (I work in health.)

Hopefully more vaccinations done sooner, rather than later.

message 392: by Carolyn (new)

Helen (helen57) | 3411 comments I agree Carolyn

message 394: by Alex (new)

Alex Cantone | 982 comments Here in N. Qld, we are signing in at the supermarket. What they won't release is the age group of the super-incubators who are spreading it (suffice to say, stay away from bars and gyms).

When we got the 1st jab I asked what the risk factors behind blood clots were - like ethnicity, or underlying health problems (obesity, high BP, diabetes) and was met with stony silence. This is not the way to get the public onside.

Good grief Alex. All our questions were answered knowledgeably and patiently by our GPs, and more information was given to us that we hadn't thought to ask about. I'm shocked about the way you were treated!

Same. The doctor told me far more than I wanted to know!

message 399: by Trish (new)

Trish (trishr) | 1109 comments Also received good information when I got my first AZ jab. I really hope the current 'outbreak' now into several states motivates more people to get vaccinated ASAP. Stay safe and healthy everyone.

Our second jab is coming up mid July and I'm looking forward to having it done, and being fully vaccinated!
