The Writhing: A Horror Novel by Abe Moss

Synopsis
You never truly know your neighbors, or what goes on behind closed doors. Sometimes it's better not to. Sometimes the truth is downright haunting.

Alex watches from her bedroom window as the small, secluded town of Amberton sleeps: a bright, pleasant town with a dark, disturbing secret. Helen, her foster mother, is gone all hours of the night with no explanation. The neighbors, always friendly, always smiling, are also always watching. They know something Alex doesn’t. Something she shouldn’t…

When three outsiders become ensnared in the town’s dark conspiracies, Alex witnesses for herself the nightmare hiding in plain sight. Together, haunted by their own pasts, these outsiders threaten to unstitch the town at its rotten seams, uncovering the gruesome truth writhing beneath the surface.

Stacey | 897 comments Looking forward to starting! I may get a bit read tonight.

Kristen Joanne (kristen856) | 61 comments Yes I’m so excited! This is Abe’s first book he put out! I loved his book Under The Wicked Moon.

Stacey | 897 comments Ok, I finished part 1. I'm a bit confused how the two storylines come together, although I have a guess. Time will tell. The end of the section was super crazy.

So far I like it. How he pulls it together will really sway me though. What do you think?

Stacey | 897 comments Oh, and I wanted to let you know that UNO sign ups have started. It is a 3 month team challenge. I had fun trying it last year. No pressure, just thought I'd let you know.

UNO2021

Kristen Joanne (kristen856) | 61 comments Thanks I'm definitely going to sign up it looks fun!! I'm currently reading now just got the chapter four where Alex is introduced. I'll be back in a few when I finish. I do feel bad for Brenda poor lady seems like she can't escape that man! I don't blame her for what she did. To be continued....

Stacey | 897 comments I can't wait to hear what you think by the end of the section. How is it coming? I am debating starting the next section or waiting another day, I don't want to get too far ahead of you as I think it will be harder to discuss if I know too many spoilers (or forget some details which is likely)

Stacey | 897 comments How are you coming along? I slowed down a bit but I'm finished with Part 2. The beginning of Part 2 really shifts and gets very strange but still enjoying (I think it was there, maybe late part 1).

The last section is pretty short compared to the others I'll likely be done this weekend.

Stacey | 897 comments Ok, I finished. I'll wait to say anything more until you are done. I am really interested in what you thought and how it compared to the other book of his that you read.

Kristen Joanne (kristen856) | 61 comments I sent you a message because it took me way too long to finish this book.

Kristen Joanne (kristen856) | 61 comments I love Abe Moss’s writing style I like how in his books I feel like I really connect/know the characters. I’m not much into the sci-fi stuff but I did enjoy this book. Poor Wendy I really wanted her to make it! But twelve years? And nothing? I would of ran but she did say she didn’t have a car and wanted to stay because she missed her husband. I wish we knew where these “things” came from though. Also Brenda in section one I felt bad for her, section two I wanted her dead, then section three I went back to feeling bad for her. That’s my next question how was her husband able to contact her than once she was in this town not able to contact her? I know he mentions being in a fish tank so did that thing at the bottom of the church have his soul trapped too until Aaron killed it and released all those souls? Tell me what you think? I have other questions but I didn’t want to make this post long as heck which I already did haha!

Stacey | 897 comments I really liked the first part. It was creepy and fun and the twist at the end! Then it went a bit strange. I do like sci fi, but to me there was just too many different ideas going on at once. I kind of understand Wendy, and her ending was a bit odd. I agree that there were lots of questions that I still had. Such as, what about Aaron looking like Wendy's husband. There were so many references about it initially and then nothing. For Brenda's husband I think it was because he got sucked into the thing with the other 'souls'. I do wish that there was either more info on the 'thing' or some hint as to whether it was really gone or could come back. I truly didn't understand all of the snake things at the end. Was it over? Would they just stay that way?

I did enjoy it and am glad to hear about his others. Was this his first book? If so, that also makes me more interested to see how he progresses as an author.
